Looking for Bookshelf speakers for 2-channel music only.

I had a pair of B&W 685's, but honestly I did not care for them. Can anyone suggest some speakers ... this time budget is under $400 pair. I will be using a Klipsch SW-110 powered sub. They will be on speaker stands also.

Side note: I have a pair of the Pioneer SP-BS21-LR speakers, and they actually sound pretty good, but I think I can do better.

Any suggestions would be great!

Setup:

Luxman R-117 - 160w/8ohms
Firestone DAC/Mac Mini/iTunes

I suggest that you consider the PSB Image B6 speakers and the KEF iQ30 speakers.

The iQ30 speakers were $600, but KEF Direct currently has them for $399, which is quite a deal.

Saturday Audio has the Image B6 for $439/pair (down from $550).

The Wharfdale Diamond 10.1 is another very good one ($349).

Based on the fact that you don't like B&W, I assume you're looking for something more accurate which means the Ascend, PSB, and KEF are most suitable for the sound you're looking for.

Exactly! Well said.

I wonder how the Pioneer SP-BS41-LR would sound (I know they are cheaper)? They seem to get good ratings.

The will mainly be lacking in the resolution department - and the
highs will sound rolled off.
