Who's going to the LSAF next weekend in Dallas, TX May 4-6?

I can't since we'll be going to Dallas this weekend April 28.

Another fun event I will have to miss out.

Looks like AudioKinesis, Legacy Audio, and Soundfield Audio will be there among others.

Can't believe you left Polk out!. A few folks might have heard of them.
Brines, GR Research and Pi Audio are speaker manufacturers among the others. Still not sure about Salk, probably not at this point.
And unless they're demoing headphones, the other 30+ rooms should have some sort of speakers.

Can anybody attend this? Or is this for industry only? Also, is there a link with the details/location?

Hopefully you're bringing me those D15s for $100

Anyway, I'm thinking about stopping by the LSAF, but I probably won't have time since my sister is coming to visit.

Thanks. Doesn't look like anybody will be demoing Focal speakers. I am interested in hearing the 1000Be series, and there are not very many dealers around.

Hard to say, since few of the non-speaker manufacturers list what speakers they are using to demo.

Not a bad idea to listen for yourself to a speaker before buying it.....
A 4 hr drive isn't a quick trip to the store, granted, but rarely will the store have 40+ speakers/brands to listen to in one spot...and usually (mostly) the bigger brandnames...which appears not to be your target.

cheers,

AJ

Yes, there's nothing available for local demo that I'm even vaguely interested in. If Salk, Philharmonic and Selah were going to be there in addition to Vapor, it would be a no-brainer.
It's almost worth flying up and back on Saturday since there's no way I could make Friday anyway. Compared to the cost of gas and a night in a decent hotel, it would almost be worth it just to avoid the long car ride. Those numbers only work if I went myself though.
Unless the list on the website is incomplete, the only speaker on my short list is the Vapor. Of course you never know what speakers electronics companies will bring to demo their stuff.

You are correct Doc. Most don't list their speakers, but I'm pretty sure they will have some.
Seems like the list has grown to about 40 officially, most likely more come show time (+ the local DIYers). I also read where Danny from GR Research might be having a standmount shootout in his suite.
Stop in and say hi if you attend doc. Same goes to any other AVSers going.

cheers,

AJ

The Polk actually looks pretty good to me.

Too bad it's a "Polk".

It's like a great looking Hyundai. No matter how good it is, it's still a Hyundai.

Not sure what you're getting at here, both represent reasonable value to the consumer. Kudos to Polk for showing at nearly every one of these events.
Pretty sure Hyundai recent sales strength is based on product content/value rather than hype and street rep.

I think his point is that someone looking for an Audi, Mercedes or BMW is most likely not going to even look at, much less buy, a Hyundai. It will take many years to change those habits. It may take them spinning off the luxury models to another brand as Lexus, Infiniti and Acura did.
With speakers, small boutique companies such as yours can do quite well, but what audiophile is going to buy a Bose speaker, even if they make a great one, it would take many years to change that mindset.

Oh I understand that Doc, but that hasn't prevented Hyundai from gaining market share from their actual competitors, which is more along the lines of Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Ford etc.
Maybe Polks natural market competition is the mass names also, but I still give them props for showing up. Not scared of competition. Seems they'll be at CapFest as well (again)...and that's about as mainstream a "High End" show as any, replete with the >$100k speakers, etc.
Speaking of competition, I showed up with my guns holstered, but alas, once again, no other gunslingers at the saloon. Real shame.

Thanks and I don't think Polk quite equates to Bose, but I understand what you're saying. Especially since my product didn't even cross your radar in the $3k-4k range standmount search. Priced too low, like a Hyundai I guess.

cheers,

AJ

p.s. Btw, I drive a Hyundai also. I place emphasis only on content, performance and value. Go figure...

Yeah, too bad no one was up for the standmount shootout, too scared of you I guess...
Touche on your last statement, although I was on your website as recently as yesterday as well as some of the threads on AC. Nothing is a done deal yet. I still have an open mind to spending less than I planned on. Your speakers have certainly garnered some attention against heavy hitting competition. It's nice to see somebody doing something different. One of my concerns is some difficulty easily getting power to my right speaker, more wires= less WAF.
My tastes run more to BMW and Porsche, but I admit Hyanduai has been making some real progress. I could see them being real competition if looking at Japanese luxury cars. It's hard to beat the handling of the German cars.

Hah, I was kidding of course, but the odd coincidences are stacking up. Maybe I could run a statistical probability model to see if....ah never mind.

Understood. The active bass is the ace and Achilles at the same time.

Ironically, for an inexpensive Korean brand, one of their strengths is handling, not BMW/Porsche mind you, but perhaps bettered only by Mazda in their true market segment. I know they've gone upmarket (Genesis, Equus, etc.), not sure if they kept the traits of their lower end lines.

Perhaps my emphasis on value is why you won't see a $4k 2-way 7" passive standmount Soundfield in this lifetime.

cheers,

AJ

A lot of people make analogies between speakers and cars.

Buying decisions sometime go beyond value, performance, and aesthetics.

The Polk actually measures extremely well in the latest Home Theater Magazine. But because Polk has also made many lesser speakers in the past, it's just hard for some people to spend $4K on them.

Company reputation is extremely important.

That's just my opinion.
