Sorry, I confused Veda's question as coming from you... (why ask about good soundcards if you just got a DAC).

But you did buy a DAC (.i.e. Music Streamer) so I am now also confused by your last answer.

Yes, I bought the music streamer off ebay. I will be A/Bing it vs my onboard audio and cd player when it arrives.

I'm really hoping for the best.

About 2 days in with the HRT Music Streamer.
DAC is once again bright compared to my cd player/Onboard Realtek ALC888.
Vocals and Cymbals seem very slightly elevated. Clarity is all there, but the soundstage is non-existant. All my lossless music sounds very narrow and compressed and gives off a little echoei vibe.

I've A/Bed Midnight City by M83 about 10 times and when the sax solo comes in on the HRT it kinda gets lost with the mix, as with the ALC888 and CD player it just sounds right and dynamic.

Going with yet another return. I am done with DACS.

I recommend spending some additional time with the DAC in order to get used to it. Many people, including myself, think it sound worse when a component sounds different, even if it sounds better, which is, what I think you are dealing with. Try to listen to as many different songs as you can, as there are a ton of songs out there that were recorded with lesser quality SQ. Also, what speakers are you using?

As far as im concerned it's dead accurate.

The HRT has an echoie bright feel to it. (not natural)

I have given up on CD players a couple of years ago. Aside from occasional DVD-A or SACD listening, all my music are coming from the hard drive. Majority of my music are ripped AIFF and a few ALAC. All are fed to an external DAC via USB. To be honest, I can't tell any difference between a CD player and computer 16/44 music.

Most likely, it will sound more similar to the Xonar Essence and the Music Streamer II than to your CD player.

Your questions are answered: Speaker FAQ

I dont think so, I will say I enjoyed the sound of the Music Streamer much more the Xonar ST. The Xonar was way to harsh, and the music streamer II was just a tad to bright and echoi.

The Emotiva XDA-1 has a diffrent DAC than both the Xonar and Music Streamer. As is much more HI-FI orientated ($350) than the other 2 small dacs.

I will of course post by thoughts when it arrives.

As for the digital ins regardless if I use optical/USB/coaxial they should all sound the same no?

Thi$ ha$ been a very fun experience.

It should sound the same. The only difference is that USB only support up to 24/48kHz.
