Hello there,

Basically we're now moving and in the current house I put all the speaker wires and everything in the walls when we finished the basement. I'm going to leave my HKTS 18 7.1 setup and purchase a new setup.

The two systems I'm looking at are the Polk Audio TL350 or the Energy Take Classic or 2. The new house it will be in a fairly large room (24'x24' with the speakers taking setup in half of the room 12' wide by 20'). I don't ever blast the system but I want to be able to hear it nicely with some oomph! I also don't want to put a massive strain on the receiver (I'm running a Pioneer VSX 1018). In both cases I'd look to upgrade the 5.1 setup to a 7.1.

I'd appreciate any feedback as I'm not an audiophile but love my movies to sound great!

Thanks!

You'll never get some "oomph" from speakers that small, in a room that large.

I agree, what type of budget are you looking at? it might help us give you some good ideas to play with.

EMP tek 5.1 theater setup, Marantz SR6006, Oppo BDP-95
Salk Songtowers, Emotiva XPA-2, ERC-1.

This is a horrible hobby!!  My wallet hates me, takes up to much space, neighbors want me to move, but man my house sounds amazing!

It's less about a budget but more about the fact that I'll have to hang all but the front 3 from the ceiling. That's why I kind of have to go small. That's why I'm struggling. I've heard the TL350s sound impressive for their size but I just don't know if there's other options or if I'm stuck. Maybe oomph is out of the picture.

Volume wise you should be ok as long as the listening position is realistic and based on the viewing distance. So like 8-10 feet or so.

What you will need though is a fairly robust sub placed as close to the listening position as you can.

Otherwise those speakers will work for you as long as your expectations are realistic.

Klipsch RF-62II, RC-500, RS-400, SVS PC12+,
Def Tech SC8000
Harman Kardon AVR 1600
PS3, Apple TV, Sharp 70" Qattron

I would like to throw in one more type of speaker if budget isn't a huge issue but is more then both brands you have posted and that is Anthony Gallo Acoustics and go for some thing like a A’Diva Ti 5.1 System, they sound amazing and will get the job done as well as you can hang them any where, If you have an audio store near you that sells Anthony Gallo I would recommend to do an audition, now if the sets they sell are to pricey I would learn towards the Energy Take Classic out of the two, its a good set but that is just my personal opinion.

For the high-mounted speakers, I suggest that you look at the JBL L820 and L810. They wall-mount and are only 5 inches deep. The L820 could even be a possibility for your front speakers.

For front two speakers, I suggest that you get some that are big enough to produce some decent bass in a room that big. They should be rated to go down to 50 Hz and rated to handle at least 150 watts; something on the order of the Polk Monitor 40 speakers.

Baby speakers with 4-inch or smaller drivers are definitely no good for that room.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm still considering all options but on the weekend I went to FS and listened to the Energy Veritas V-Minis and they were very impressive!! Not a tiny size but not big either. Can definitely wall mount them and maybe rig something to the ceiling (maybe). How do the Energy Connoisseur CB-10 compare to the V-Minis? I'm looking online and it seems like the V-Minis are being discontinued.
