So i have been considering making the jump to the home theater world and i need some help.

There is SOOOOO many brands its mind boggling and all the local audio stores are ridiculously overprice compared to online companies.

HT use will be 100% Movie and Television.

Budget is 3k-4k but that must also include a receiver.

5 Speakers
1-2 Subs
Receiver

For subs im pretty much set on either a SVS Plus or NSD

I do live in Canada so not all the online retailers will work from the stats (Big shipping charges)

I was almost set on the EMP tek speakers but i just cant handle the 500$ shipping cost.

Is there any recommendations out there for a system?

EDIT

Room dimensions 11 x 16. Couch against wall with approximately 9 feet to television.

Since you are in Canada, it seems pretty much like a no-brainer to go with PSB speakers. They are not only some of the best speakers you can get, but the company is in Canada and any service or warranty work in years to come will be done in Canada at their main facility. Use the dealer locator on their website to find your local dealers.

For the front, get the Image T6 speakers, which are wonderful speakers, and for the center the Image C4. The other two should be the Image B5 speakers. That will give you an excellent system for $2000. If for some reason you do not want floorstanding speakers for the fronts, the Image B6 speakers could be used instead of the T6 (and total cost would be about $1500).

The list price on these would be just over $2000 (or $1500) in the US, but I understand that many Canadian PSB dealers will discount them somewhat.

For a receiver, Best Buy Canada has the Harman-Kardon AVR3600 for $1100 and the Denon AVR-2112CI for $750, both of which are excellent. You can't go wrong with either one of those.

Best Buy Canada also has Klipsch subwoofers and other brands available. The subwoofer forum here can be helpful in selecting what you need.

I would advise you to go ahead and get the PSB speakers and the receiver and shop around a bit and do some research on the subwoofer; you can take your time on that. The Image T6 speakers have quite a lot of bass, and you may decide you don't even need a subwoofer in a room that size.

If you go with the B6 speakers instead of the T6, you will definitely want a subwoofer, but you will also be spending about $500 less on the PSB speaker system and can put that towards the sub.

Either way, this should fit your budget and give you an excellent system.

Quit bumping. Be patient!

Id recommend 3.1 first . But if you want 2 good subs outlaw is having a sale right now. Not sure how much shipping would be to canada. Take a look at funky audio for subs

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...

Allow me to mention Paradigm (again your location being Canada). Monitor series or SE series should very well be within your speaker budget (fronts, center and rear) of $2-2.5k, assuming receiver and sub cost about $1.5-2k. I demo a Monitor series set at a dealer side by side with a B&W set twice its price and Paradigm came out ahead by not very narrow margin. All around dynamics, neutral and very full sounding bang for the buck set.

For the receiver, I'm no expert but do check out Integra DTR series. 30.3 costs about $800, 40.3 $1k. Fronts bi-amping option, 3D capable, iph usb connection and Audyssey room correction. Sounds great as well as the hi-end onkyo line.

For sub, SVS or HSU sounds good! You can't go wrong with neither.

Where exactly in Canada are you located?

If you do not mind relatively large speakers take a look at chase home theater offerings.

2 ED Cinema 12s
1 ED Cinema 6 center
2 ED Cinema 6 rears

= ~ $1.7K
http://www.edesignaudio.com/htpackage.php

Two HSU VTF-15H subwoofers
= $2k
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-15Dual.html

Onkyo TX-SR805 used on ebay
= $300
Excellent Receiver at bare basement price. THX Ultra II rating, all the newest codecs, 3 HDMI - only thing it lacks from modern receivers is 3d passthrough.

Something like this 2K option is also interesting - but I'd spend the money on the first option if you can swing it.

The above is all fantastic stuff!

where you are at in canada, I would check into Paradigm, seems you guys can get pretty good deals from the dealers there. Overall good HT speakers. SVS has a canadian subwoofer distributor, so look at their site, theyll tell you who it is. Id suggest the SVS NSD-PB12 with the Monitor 3 v7, Center 3 V7 and then look at what surrounds will work best for you, either the on wall ADPs or the Monitor 1s.

Dynaudio Focus 260s, Focus 210C, DM 2/6, Hsu VTF2 MK4, Oppo BDP-103,
Naim Nait XS-2, Jolida FX Tube DAC, Integra DTR-40.2, 55" Panasonic Plasma

PSB Imagine Mini with PSB Imagine Mini C and add sub of your choice as well as receiver. Should fit in your price range and some of the BC stores can probably ship this to you for low cost...
You can get also those wall brackets from PSB too (made for Mini) and they are look really good on the wall too.

And if you need support they are in Pickering, ON but they do not want people to go there without appointment (guess how I did find this out...).

Psst, read carefully while I will tell you a secret... wink.gif

They have one store on the ebay but this store do not run under their name or anything that you can associate with PSB but they sell there what they have overstock and full warranty... There you can get a very good deal on the speakers (around 50% off) and free shipping. You can get there also a high end NAD electronics (PSB own NAD). I strongly suggest that you look there and if you don't rush you can get over the time amazing deal on electronics and speakers. Just purchase what they have and lurk for missing stuff.

http://stores.ebay.ca/etechcanadaelectronics

Look at those NAD receivers, it might happen that you pull the trigger right away...
as well as surrounds, while at this price and free shipping... rolleyes.gif

I hope this will help you out... as well as to many other forum members which are looking for good deals...

Do not tell anyone I told you... biggrin.gif
