Hey guys. I'm currently looking to upgrade my tsi 300s to the tsi 500s. I have a cs20 center. I'm selling the tsi300s and my tsi 100s (i cant use surrounds anymore) to my friend who is putting together his first ht system.

I would like to hear peoples opinions of the tsi 500s. From the money I get from selling my old stuff, I could get a pair of the tsi 500s for around $375. Its mostly for gaming and movies, but I will listen to music as well. For those of you who own these speakers, what do you think of them? How are they for music and movies/games? I will be adding an svs subwoofer at some point in the future, so I'm mainly just concerned with how the tsi 500s handle midrange and highs. Ill put it lower just to see what they sound like, but i'll porbably still have the crossover between 60-80 hz cuz I'm too scared to break them if they try to reproduce low bass that they are really not meant to. Is $375 a steal for these or would u suggest I buy something else?

FYI: I'm running these with an onkyo tx-nr509

What price are the TSi's before you factor in your sold gear? You can get Monitor 70's for $350 straight up. Sonically they're basically identical to the TSi series

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-Monitor...item35bc7fc468

The real upgrade would be moving up to the RTi series

The tsi500s are 799.99 a pair on amazon where I would buy them. I toyed with the idea of buying them refurbished for $500 a pair from the polk ebay store but decided against it. I will not buy the monitor series because I really like the look of the tsi series. I'm selling my old gear for around $425, so Ill end up paying around $375 for the pair of tsi500s. Id like to think that is a good deal for them being I'm only paying out of pocket for one really.

RTI series isn't in my budget so thats out. I really liked the tsi300s so Im sure ill love the tsi500s even more.

About the wasting money, I would probably agree if I was paying out of pocket for the pair but i'm not. I really want my midrange to be handled well; overkill is fine with me. Id rather know for sure my speakers are more than capable of producing those frequencies rather flawlessly than strain them in the slightest bit because they can't handle certain frequencies. I can wait for my svs sub when ever I get that, but space is a problem so that will have to wait for now.

Anyone who has/had the tsi500's Id like to get their input on them taking into account I'm only paying $375 for the pair. Good deal? yay or nay?

u would be correct sir

I just wanted people's opinions that have the tsi500s; If I should expect a night and day comparison between them and the tsi 300s that Im selling. I'm no audiophile, but I do like good sound. I don't think I'm too hard to impress really haha. If metallica and gears of war sound good, I'm a happy camper

Like Jay mentioned, what is the total you will be paying for your new speakers?

Personally, if you are going to pay close to $700 id suggest that you look at the monitor audio bx5 or psb image t5. IMO, they are much better speakers.

dont expect a night and day difference, esp. if the mid-range is the area that youre not finding adequate with your 300. The 500 will mostly just add bass.

I will be paying, out of my own pocket, about $375 for a pair of the tsi 500s. The rest of the money I will get when I sell my old gear.

I really enjoy my 300s. I'm just afraid to push them really because I'm afraid of blowing them. Even though I only have an onkyo 509 but still

Are you saying the midrange is the same on the 300s and 500s? or i just shouldnt expect a huge difference between the two at say 60hz and above?

Did you not see those RTi A5's that I linked were like $500 pr? You could get those with the matching A6 center for a little more then you're paying for the tsi500's...

typically you will only blow a speaker when the amp clips, causing distortion to be pushed to the speakers.

the highs and upper mid-range will be the same since the tweeters are the same, below the crossover point, they wont be the same, as they have different designs, but the lower mid-range and mid-bass doesnt impress me personally.

I already have the cs20 center channel and I'm happy with it. I dont wanna spend more money and have to upgrade the center channel too. I think if I have the best speakers in the tsi series I will stop getting upgraditis and be happy for a few years with them thats the plan anyway haha

I just wanted peoples opinion as to whether or not the $375 i would be paying out of pocket was a good deal for a pair of the tsi500s, as well as peoples thoughts on the speakers themselves.

The consensus on avs is that the tsi series is not a good value.
