+1 on the Borthers in Arms SACD, great material to demo with.

I also like "She talks to angels" by the Black Crowes. This song has amazing sound stage on a proper set up, as well as good dynamic range and a good test of frequency response.

I like Hotel California(5.1) to show off music. It has nice deep bass with the kick of the drum(down to 25Hz or so), and the blend of the front and rear soundstage is perfect.

I also like Daft Punk - Something About Us. It has a nice deep bass line and plenty of highs.

I always demo with:

Porcupine Tree - Normal
maudlin of the Well - The Girl With the Watering Can
Sufjan Stevens - Come On! Feel the Illinois...

But it is best to demo with songs you are very familiar with; otherwise you don't know how they are supposed to sound.

Whenever I want to impress someone with the power of my speakers I play "Toccata" by Manheim Steamroller:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPdK5-Y2K0M

It needs to be played on a CD player for the full effect (at least, my computer's motherboard sound cannot manage the dynamic range). A compressed mp3 doesn't do it justice.

None of the songs I've seen here can touch it for acoustic power of this piece.

Funny that you pick the word acoustic to describe a piece with so much synthesizer in it. The drums appear to be super well recorded though.

Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope Album

Fidelity is voice and bass. A lot of the songs start out intimate and add instruments. Lots of piano. And quite a few other interesting instruments.

Sounds good on my 20 year old Kenwood - I don't have any good speakers - I'm looking for demo material too so I can change that smile.gif

Edit: Also something very active is Estradasphere - Palace of Mirrors Album - The Return - It'll knock your socks off

Electrical engineer by education. Currently a system engineer. I like home automation, theaters, and blinking lights.
Someday it'll be more of an actual hobby - if my employer would ever let me go home!
"The Escape Pod" - My First Theater Build
