Hi, I'm building a home theater setup for the first time and could use some input on the speakers. Currently I have:

Onkyo Tx-nr 709
10 Energy rc micros (2- 5.0 sets)
Good 12" sub being built by my semi-audiophile brother

I plan to use 8 of my energy rc micros for room to room music throughout my house and will likely set it up as my Zone 2 on my receiver. However, I can use them for my surround system until a good deal arises. Also, I can use 2 of my extra micros (the center channels?) in my home theater setup if needed (can buy 3 speakers or 5 and they'll up to a 5.1 or 7.1 respectively), but if they make the system sound worse I can either not use them or sell them. My budget isn't set in stone, cheap is appreciated, but I want bang for the buck. If there is a $150 5.0 system that is pretty good and only slightly worse than the best $450 system I can get then I'd go with $150. That being said if there is a $300 set that is significantly better than anything I can get for 200 or 250 then I can definitely afford that. For those interested my room is 18 ft by 10 ft with ceilings about 7 ft 3in. Main listening position is back of the room in front of the TV but its a big sectional couch so with guests it will be everywhere. I even attached my sweet artist's rendering of my basement if it helps with suggestions.

Edit: Thanks for the replies. After the advice on here, and speaking with my brother, I think I am going to look into floor standing fronts. Since I have my energy micro setup, I will use that until a good sale comes around. Any thoughts on the following:

Polk Monitor 60s: as cheap as $100 in the past and 120 recently per front
Polk Monitor 70s: currently 179 at newegg as cheap as 150 in the past
Jamo s426 5.0 setup: as cheap as $129 in the past and often as cheap as $199
Used Pair Klipsch klf-10: 2 for $225 (too old, or stil worth it?)
Used Klipsch Reference 10 5.1 with yamaha RX-V459 receiver $499...might see what price without receiver and sub is or see what I can sell receiver and sub for if this is a good set to buy

Any other suggestions appreciated!!

Any thoughts on buying used floor standers off of craigslist? Worth it if you're on a budget or too risky?

Thanks for input

The speakers you have might be OK for a very small; room, but the front speakers are pretty tiny . Front speakers should be capable of going down to around 50 Hz for a good overall sound.

I suggest you look at the Jamo S426HCS3 5.0 system for $299 on Amazon.

Since a sub is used with most HT systems, speakers do not need to have an F3 of 50 hertz. That would eliminate many speakers (JTR & Seaton Sound) that are built to be used for HT and nearly all actual commercial cinema speakers.

Great special on the Energy Veritas V5.1 bookshelf speakers at the moment. $121 each at Vanns (enter promo code "audio" here: http://www.vanns.com/shop/promo). Three of those across the front with your RC Micros as rear surrounds would be a great setup.

If smaller systems is your thing - then the Atlantic system, is a nice one for the price.
