Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but you can buy some excellent condition lightly used speakers on AudiogoN or eBay for 50-55% off retail as well.

Like the $2800 Dynaudio X32 or $2500 Focal 826V. Just another idea.

Here is a pr of new KEF R500 (msrp $2600) asking for $1550, but you can offer $1200.

Here is a pair of Revel F12 asking for only $600, you can offer $500. biggrin.gif

Here is a pair of Dynaudio Contour T2.5 retail $4500, asking $1300 in excellent condition. Offer $1200.

Speaking of doing your homework, read this before doing any business with newaudiovideo.com.

I had a similar need and price limit and ran across these for $1500 (all five pieces) from a Scandinavian manufacture by the name of Audio Pro:
Sound quality of the left and right fronts are amazing for the money....full range, tight bass, good imaging and the cabinets are beautiful...black lacquer and leather.

Someone over on the PE forum measured the Pendragon, with dual woofers and 3 tweeters. It was about 92-93db sensitivity...

Other then that the measurements were surprisingly good, though no vertical measurements were taken.

Here is the lates review on Tekton SPeaker its for their Pendragons, i was floored by this review espicially since i was looking at paradigms sig8, B&W 802D, monitor audio platinum line to name a few, i am inquiring about prices and finishes right now i need to hear these.

The price point is crazy and now they have a centre, srrounds and subwoofer its worth checking out, i know i am.

According to the review the pendragons are one of the best out there with B&W 800 Diamond, Wilson Audio, focal etc...

the review that will make you go hmmmmm

Well after starting this thread I spent a lot of time doing my homework and research and really narrowed it down to a few different choices. Actually 4 choices. I had multiple conversations with Eric at Tekton, Louis from Omega and Ed from The Horneshoppe. And the three, actually four speakers that I am making my final decision between are as follows.

Have you auditioned any single driver type speakers like you linked? Its fine if you like them, but if you havent listened extensively just be aware that there are serious performance compromises to a full range driver...

Always take reviews from anyone with a grain of salt.

The Tekton may sound great to the reviewer, but that does not guarantee you will agree.

I'll bet that if people are given a choice of any speakers they want for free, most people will choose the B&W 800s over the Tekton. biggrin.gif

Does Tekton offer a return policy? If you don't like the way they sound in your own room, can you return them or are you stuck with them?

There are pros and cons to B&M and ID companies.

ID speaker can sound great and measure great, and some are better bang for your money. Some have much better efficiency (CHT, JTR, Soundfield, etc).

B&M speaker can have the benefit of more research and development and the trickle down effect. For example, the technology and knowledge that went into the $70K JBL or $22K Salon trickles down to the lower priced Revel. The R&D of the $160K KEF Muon trickles down to the lower priced KEF. The $190K Focal Grande Utopia trickles down to lower Focal, and the $100K Dynaudio flagship trickles down to the lower Dynaudio as well. Some of these speakers may have huge discounts ($1260/pr for KEF Q900 or Revel F12). Even better bargains as used speakers.

Anyway, take all reviews with a grain of salt.

When you say serious performance compromises, what do you mean by that? And as far as the Tekton is concerned, I really don't see them as single full range drivers, they also have the tweeter.

And no, I haven't personally heard any of these speakers. RMAF is right around the corner and I am hoping that some of these will be available to audition.

They do offer a return.

You can return them within 30 days. Buyer pays shipping + 15% restocking fee

So the buyer could be out $775 including fee + shipping if they bought the Pendragon and didn't like.

I don't know about those Tekton speakers. I know I need to hear them for myself but I just don't see the appeal with those. Looks like they use fairly inexpensive Eminence pro audio drivers. The fact that the one reviewer gushed about them so much comparing them to $30K - $60K speakers turned me off even more. Get real....

They would not be on my list, for serious music listening.

PSB GT1, depending on the cosmetic blemish

Plus the price of the Wharfedale EVO2-40 at MusicDirect, is hard to overlook

I can not speak for Source Technologies - however, they do look interesting.

Horrible power response with almost no upper mid and high frequency content off axis. Extremely ragged on axis response, and completely room/placement dependent bass response.

The Wharfedale's have caught my eye before. Any reviews on those specific towers? The Rosewood is also a beautiful finish.

Yes. Very much so. I still visit the TAI website reading reviews. I might just pick up a pair of Arx A1B's just to hold me over right now till I make a decision on the towers.

I just re-posted my review of the ARX A1b on the brand new ARX owner's thread at http://www.avsforum.com/t/1429229/the-official-arx-owners-thread-a1-a1b-a2-a2b-a3-a5-etc. These are amazing speakers for their size and price.

None that I can find so far, they were re-worked from the EVO Pacific series.
