Hello,

So I am upgrading both my multimedia room and my 2 channel audio room. I have been doing a ton of research and almost decided to go with some bookshelf speakers and sub for my multimedia room but after further deliberation and realizing how much two channel music I listen to in my multimedia room, I have decided to stick with full range towers. Listening to music without a sub is very important for me so bookshelves crossed over at 80hz was not going to work for me. That's too bad because stuff from Chase and HSU were at the top of my list. But after doing a lot of music listening lately up there on my Rocket RS-450's, like I said, I realize how much I enjoy two channel audio. I have to either get a center channel that closely matches the Rockets, find a Bigfoot center again or just go with something completely different. I love the Rockets, they are still one of the best speakers I have ever owned. But since selling most of my Rocket gear, including some RS-850's, Bigfoot and one MFW 15, it's time to start the 5.1 rebuild process. So anyway I have narrowed it down to a few companies and wanted to hear some of my fellow AVS members opinions. I love the bass response of the RS-450's so the next tower has to be similar. The RS-450's go down to 38hz. So I would like something that easily goes down to 35hz, 30hz is ideal but that might be hard to do on a $1500 budget. The companies I have looked at are ZU Audio, Wharfedale, Aperion, PSB, Monitor Audio, Phil Jones and Epos. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I also think Q900 or F12.

Brand new pair delivered to front door:

KEF Q900 / $1284.00

Revel F12 / $1264.00

I have had Swan Diva 6.2F for about a year and a half. I started by buying a used C3 and some very used and roughed up M1s which lead me to pay full price for the Diva 6.2F. I ended up finding a used set of Swan 2.1 bookshelf speakers for rears which are not too bad.

The Diva 6.2F continues to impress me. My main stereo setup is a pair of Kudos Cardea C30s ($12,000) with a Rogue Audio Chronus Magnum amp. The Kudos is perfect IMO, that's why I got them. But when I spend the time listening to my Diva 6.2 I am still very much impressed at the level of detail and range these things offer for only 1/10 the price of the Kudos. The Swan does VERY well with good amplification. I've hooked up the Rogue Audio Chronus Magnum and very recently a pair of Rogue M180 monoblocks. The Diva just gets better and better when its paired with quality source equipment. They have a very usable range of 33Hz - 22Khz.

The biggest complaint I have about the Diva 6.2 is the cabinet resonance. With two 8" woofers in there, things get pretty lively. There could definitely be some improvement on the internal bracing which would help with clarity and detail. When the volume gets elevated, you can feel the resonance of the cabinet. An overall heavier cabinet would make them much better as well, but that would be difficult to do on such a low cost set.

Are there any on-axis and especially off-axis measurements of those speakers?

You can get a pair of JBL L890s for <$1500. Usually closer to $1000. They go to 28 htz. And probably as good or better than a pair of F12s.

The measurements aren't even the real issue. A 10" driver is not going to be 98 db sensitive, and capable of 30hz at anything remotely close to -3db.

Looks good to 40 hz. It also would have helped if they used 1 watt for the measurement to verify sensitivity.

Thanks. Measurements and numbers are all kind of a confusing subject, I just want to know how good it sounds. LOL smile.gif

Do you know how those measurements compare to the av123 Rocket RS-450's?

I just took a look at the site, I would not mind auditioning those speakers, especially the dual 10" Pendragons.
I know Audax tweeter brand, have them in my speakers, very good.
The one thing I do not like about those speakers is the large, boxy cabinets. I prefer something a bit more refined, with curved panels.

Yeah the Pendragons look so sick but way above my pricepoint. Will have to stick with the Model Lore's. I haven't heard the Audax tweeter but have read a lot about them, very high end tweeter. And I don't care about the boxy cabinets, as long as they sound spectacular, that's all that I care about. Will be making a purchase soon so will let you know.

Just checked out tekton speakers because of this thread.

No one over mentions these when talking about high efficiency speakers. Seems like these would make good home theater speakers.

However, it doesn't seem like tekton makes center channel speakers. Also, doesn't seem like that many owners yet.

You should read the Stereophile article on the KEF Q900 thoroughly.

Once you do that, I think you will be sold.

There are very few speakers for under $3000 that have anywhere near its bass, not to mention its outstanding overall sound quality.

Its sensitivity is 90 db/watt.

The article says that it goes so low that it was a waste of time to use subwoofers with it (they tried it with and without).

NUTS!

Read the actual detailed test results in the Q900 article in Stereophile.

I think the Swan Diva 6.1 towers would fit what the OP is looking for.

Jeffrey wasn't you interested in the Arx line at one time or moving on to something else? I know Jon Lane just posted that the A5s have finally shown up and the A1b will ship this week.

Talk to Jon and see if you could jump in to the GB is some on the list fall out.

Obviously not floorstanders but AJ's Soundfield M1's can reach just as low as most in the $1500 price range.

They do make a center channel speaker, I spoke with Eric (I believe that is his name) and he said that he will be posting it shortly on the blog.

These speakers are fascinating to me. I would certainly like to hear them and i am thinking of ordering. The reviews are off the charts with reviewers ending up buying them. There is a huge thread on audigon discussing them and this is what fascinates me. There are quite a lot of people that have went from very expensive speakers and love them. Even more striking to me is the number of people driving them with electronics far far above thier price point. Amazing to drive thousand dollar speakers with gear five or ten times that price.

Feel the same, really want to try the Tekton Lore or Zu Omen at home. These two speakers are always compared.
