I found a set of these used at a trade-in store nearby the other day.

the reason they caught my is because I demoed h the CB 20's along with the C-c10 center and I really liked them for the price.

I know this is an older set, but can they match up to the newer ones that I demoed?

Thanks in advance

C-1 and C-C1 had better build quality and a mellower sound than the brighter sounding c-10 and cb-20. Which sound will YOU prefer? I dunno.

How much did the CB-20 and CC-10 go for?

You might be able to get the RC-10 and RC LCR in that same price range and the RC speakers are better than both the CB speaker and older C series.

THanks for your input, afro. the set I looked at included a sub (it was large, but we couldn't find a model number) and they're asking 500 for all 4 units. the sales rep told me they'd been sitting there for quite some time and he expected them to budge on price quite a bit.

do you think this would be a good pick up at $300 or so? I think the cb 20 w/ the cc 10 was going to run me $500.

also, I'm not sure what you mean by a "mellower" sound? would this make it more muffled? or would certain surround effects be less pronounced?

thanks again!

I think larger speakers are in order. Smaller speakers, whatever they are, just won't do justice for larger rooms, especially ones with high ceilings.

Disclaimer: I do own the C-1, as well as the larger C-3....and I think they're still great sounding speakers.

I couldn't pass up a deal on a set of C-9s and a CC-3 (returned my RC-50s). I have them in a Great Room (25'X35'X10') and they have no problem filling it out. IMHO you should go with something bigger in a larger room. You could always buy those speakers now and delegate them to surround duty later on.

the C series is a very good set of speakers. I got to hear the C7s and they surprised me by how well they played. I like the older Energys designed by John Tchilinguirian more then what you get now. I would pay $500 for them over the CBs anyday.

Dynaudio Focus 260s, Focus 210C, DM 2/6, Hsu VTF2 MK4, Oppo BDP-103,
Naim Nait XS-2, Jolida FX Tube DAC, Integra DTR-40.2, 55" Panasonic Plasma

thanks, all. I'm thinking the route I'm going to go is to try and pick these up for 3 or 4 hundo, and just see how I like them.

all of your feedback helps greatly!

the bass on the C7s was pretty good, much better then I expected to hear. They were balanced and musical, we played lots of different stuff. They were playing next to newer designs from Dali and Monitor Audio and even tho they were giving up lots of age, they werent giving up the music timing and rhythm, and while the Dalis($2700 vs the C7 $800 list i believe) offered more detail and a bigger soundstage, they didnt blow the C7s out of the water. Compared to the Energys I owned that came after the C7s, I had c-300s, these C7s had greater clarity and and a more neutral presentation, and much better dynamics. The newer CBs and Veritas speakers are good, and more modern, but lack the ability to hold the music as well, IMO. However for Movies only, the Veritas might be a better purchase, but Id still take the Connoisuers over the CB/CFs.

If you can get them with the sub for $300 that would be a very good deal.

Just the C-1 and C-C1 for $300 is just okay in my opinion.

I wouldn't pay $500 for sure. Is the subwoofer an Energy sub?

Mellower sound means the tweeter isn't a bright as the CB-20 tweeter.

Yes, that would include the sub. I'm not positive Ican get all 4 units for 300, but they're listed at 500, and they said they'd come down due to how long thyve had them. Think this would still be a good grab at 400?

How much are you willing to spend on surrounds? Buy another pair of C-1, there are some on ebay right now.
