Hello JBL experts,

i have a question i recently purchased the JBL ES 80 for the front R/L/C and have the Studio 130 for the back surrounds.
I was wondering if anyone can comment on whether the studio 190 is better than the ES 80. I started of building the Studio series but got the Es 80 on sale and picked them up. I am def on a budget and not an audiophile. I use this in my small apt bedrooom (12x12). Also i use a receiver that does not deliver enough power to these speakers, but hope one day to upgrade the receiver. Is it worth switching to the studio 190 from the ES 80

Current setup

Front Right: JBL ES 80
Front Left: JBL ES 80
Center: JBL ES80
Surround Right: JBL Studio 130
Surround Left: JBL Studio 130
Receiver: Denon 1612

I ended up returning the ES80 as my denon receiver could not power it enough. I ended up buying the JbL studio 190's instead and the center for the studio as ell. I love the sound on the studio 190 and it works well with my entry level receiver.

I wonder why you say the power was not enough for the ES 80.

It has a sensitivity of 90 db/watt, and anything over 40 watts should be good. The Studio 190 has EXACTLY the same sensitivity, so there is zero difference in power needed!

They should perform exactly the same with your receiver in terms of loudness per watt unless JBL is lying.

In any case, glad you are enjoying what you have now.

Yeah, this doesn't help. configs of both ES80 and Studio 190 are same, but the problem regarding receivers not able to pump up ES80 is not new, i like the classic design of ES80 over Studio 190. Not sure what i am going to buy, finger crossed. I hope my Yamaha VX 473 will be able to drive any of these.
