thanks for the links.

given that i can get the smaller nanosats for about 50$ each and the larger ones for 250$ each, do you feel the upgrade is worth it or should i get just get the smaller ones?

I have a question regarding rear speaker distance. My rear wall is about 12 feet behind my main listening position. I'm planning to add rear speakers to complete my 7.1 setup. Is 12 feet too far away? FYI, my front mains are about 9 feet away from MLP.

I recommend the os3 as they can go around 90hz to 80hz. you can get then for lower than to $250. I had see then many times for $150 brand new and around $120 used ones.

this store have then for $150
http://www.sounddistributors.com/buynow.asp?action=detail&prid=541&crid=269&cat_name=Mirage+Speakers

vanns last week they had around 7 open item in excellent condition for $120 each.

or check at ebay for used ones.

if you prefer vanns they do price match just tell then that sounddistribution an authorized dealer have then for $150.

ok, thanks. does it make sense though to spend more on just my rear surrounds than i did on my entire LCR and side surrounds?
i spent 135$ for those 5 speakers total.

REAR.pdf 36k .pdf file

ok, so just a recap, i need to figure out my rear surrounds to complete my 7.2 setup, the following is what i have so far:

Denon 2112 reciever
Pioneer C21 center
2 Pioneer FS-51 fronts
2 Pioneer BS-21s
2 Klipsch RW-12D subwoofers

The front 3.2 arrangement is set, but I have yet to finalize what i want to do with the surrounds. However, I have narrowed it down to two options (please see attached PDF):

1. buy another Pioneer FS-51 pair, use those as the side surrounds and move the BS-21s to the rear surrounds in the "1" locations in the closets. I would just open the closet doors when watching a movie, doing that would not bother me at all. since the speaker wire will be in the wall, i could hide the faceplate in the closets. It would also be a cleaner look with no rear channels visible when not watching a movie. i think the FS-51s would sound a lot better and i can get a pair for about 80$.

2. buy a set of mirage nanosats for about 100$ to ceiling mount as rear surrounds where the "2"s are in the pdf and leave the BS-21s as the side surrounds.

thoughts? im leaning towards the option 1 especially since the BS-21s and stands will be in a closet they will be less likely to get knocked over. the stands have some sharp corners too and there will be a 2 year old running aroung in my house soon smile.gif

well honestly I have two 7.1 setups and because of the very few movies with 7 channels sound,I decide to used then as front height, the surround back speakers where just there for months without been playing ,so I decide to place the speakers from back surround to front height and I was impress of the effect that I decide to keep then that way.

i was planning to run it the THX mode or whatever so it would blend the 5.1 surround into 7.1 surround. have you tried that?

and what do the front height speakers add? do you just plug them into the same outputs as the front left and front right?

It does, see page 54 in the manual. Also, here are the specs from the Amazon product page:

Dolby Pro Logic IIz: With the option of two additional height channels, this feature adds a vertical dimension to the soundstage, providing more immersive surround sound.

Adjusting settings according to personal preference is not calibration.

based on the rear view of the receiver on amazon, i do not see an 8th set of speaker connections. where does the front height speakers connect to? thanks

There are two speaker terminals on the back of the 2112 that say Surr Back/Amp Assign. If you don't have surround back speakers then you can use those terminals for front height speakers. You just need to assign the amps for that purpose. Its definitely in the manual, see pages 54 & 58.

To have both surround back and front height at the same time. You need a 9.1 av receiver.

ok, so omni directionals would work good as rear surrounds. what about side surrounds? is it best for those to be directional or omni directional to match the rear surrounds?

From what I've read its better to have your rear surrounds as monopoles and the side surrounds as omnidirectional.
Or just get 4 omnidirectional speakers, that works too.
