Howdy,

I'm currently in college and looking for some very budget friendly tower speakers to start a decent home theater. Price range would be $300 or less for a pair. Cheaper is always better.

I've been looking at the Polk M60's, Martin Logan Motion 10's, and also thought about going cheap with the Energy PS500 set.
I have a Pioneer SW8 subwoofer that I'm going to use for now (it's all I've got, so it'll have to do).

Which would you guys go for? Any other suggestions in this price range?

Thanks for any help

EDIT: It will be used for almost everything. Movies, TV, Gaming, and Music. Music will be more for parties though, so doesn't need to sound great. I usually listen to music for pleasure with my Swans D1080MKII's on my computer setup.

The Pioneer FS51 is also a great value, with $70 off at Newegg right now (promo code EMCNBJN34). In fact, with their current specials, you could pick up the entire Pioneer 5.0 set for just under $300. Their promo is ending Sunday.

At that price, those are very tempting. Looking into them now.

Create an account on Newegg and then subscribe to their mailing list. Once you do so, the promo codes and sale prices should show up on their website for the various Pioneer speakers as you view them when you are logged in.

Also, here is the owners thread on AVS for those Pioneer speakers.

Yeah, I'm a Newegg member and see the discounts already, just hadn't thought to look at Pioneer speakers really.

fwiw, look at the boston acoustic a250's at accessories4less $300 imo better than the polks and pioneers
If you don't mind gloss white they are only $240 look pretty good with the black grilles imo. can get a great 5.0 with the a225c center $99 and a pair of a23's for$100

i'm so laid back,i'm laid out

IMO the Martin-Logan Motion 10 is just blowing away everything else at its price point now.

It compares well to many speakers costing two times as much and higher.

The Boston Acoustics CS226C is another very good speaker for the money.

the martin logan motion 10's are rated at 4 ohms and will need careful matching to a power source

I'm using a Pioneer VSX-52TX receiver, which should be fine with the Martin Logan's

Well, I'm stuck between the M60's, Motion 10's, and the Pioneer set.

Obviously the Pioneer set is the cheapest. Will they still give me good quality? Comparable to the other two options?

If you guys had $300, would you buy the M60's + no center (maybe a very cheap center?), Motion 10's + A fairly cheap center of some sort, or the full Pioneer set?

If I go with either of the first two, I will obviously be finishing them out eventually, it will just take time.

If I were to build around the Pioneer speakers, then I would look into the newly designed speakers.
The new towers are bigger, with new drivers and a tweeter wave-guide.

They can also be found at Best Buy

Not sure if I can really justify paying that for the newer model of the same speakers...

Your call - the older set is still a good one.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with the older set. With the Newegg deal I can get the towers and center for ~$180.
