So the polk ebay store has just added A9's to their inventory, now I'm torn on what to get.
Advise on the 3 models listed? After reading countless threads, I'm not sure which direction to head.

Upgrading from Infinity primus 360's with matching center chan and 12 inch sub. All of these are going to be replaced but need help deciding on the main floor standings.
Working with a Onkyo 809 for now as well but thats on the list to be replaced/added on to as well.

Thanks for your help

What subwoofer do you have?

Pretty much the A9s and LSI15s need external amplification. The A7s and A9s are practically identical if running with a subwoofer.

Since you are basically upgrading everything,

LSI15s for more music than movies
Rti A7s for more movies than music, with a good subwoofer
Rti A9s for more movies than music, no subwoofer

The sub is an Infinity PS212. Probably going to upgrade that too...or at least thought about it when going with the A7's. With the other options though, what I've read, a sub is not needed.

As far as listening goes...movies and tv specifically. I've listened to music maybe a handful of times on the HT.

I'd go A7's with a nice sub.

Is it just me or does the notion of buying well endowed tower speakers and a subwoofer for home theater seem impractical? The reason I say;

- you've got all of this overlapping bass frequency
- most likely your going to lop off bass on the towers below 60-80Hz
- you're paying a lot more money for the better endowed towers with most of the money invested in delivering deeper bass
- investing that additional money into subwoofer will give you more power (amp) and all the performance of the tower, possibly = better performance

The Rti 6 tower or Lsi 9 bookshelf would seem the better choice, if that logic is correct.

A7s are awesome! They have a nice balance, and can be ran off of a receiver if an amp is not an option. I love them for music too!
