i have a chance of buying used klipsch speakers
2 x KG 5.5
http://www.klipsch.com/kg-5-5

2 x RF - 3 II
http://www.klipsch.com/rf-3-ii-floorstanding-speaker

1 x RC 3 II
http://www.klipsch.com/rc-3-ii-center-speaker
for $500
or should i go with brand new speakers like the polk monitor60 they have on sale on newegg for $120 each and i would get 4 of them 2 for the front and 2 for surround and get a matching center what do u guys think is a better deal

The Klipsch speakers would be much better. Those are their older reference line (except the KGs), and alltogether, they sold for a lot more than $500 new. The current versions of the RF-3s are the RF-82 IIs, and they sell for $600/pr. The current version of the RC-3 is the RC-62, $549. There's no modern replacement for the KG 5.5s, but I read elsewhere that they were about $900 new. So that's about $2049 worth of speakers, if you were to purchase them new.

It's too bad there isn't a center to match up with those KGs, because they would make nice mains. As it is, I would recommend using the RF/RC-3s up front, and use the KGs as either some really nice surrounds, or put them in a separate room as a 2-channel music system and get some Klipsch RS-42s or RS-52s for surrounds. Or RB-51 or RB-61s if you prefer bookshelf surrounds.

I would say go with the Klipsch as well...with one caveat. Horn tweeters are not for everyone, so listen to them first or make sure you buy them from a site that allows a trail period and inexpensive return.

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

+1

I have a set of KG 5.5's and LOVE them!! For $500 thats a heck of a steal for all that. The center channel listed will work out just fine.

I don't know who got the better deal.....cool.gif

Making room in a small Manhattan apartment can be worth a lot of money when you consider the monthly per sqft rental price and the amount of real estate freed up by selling you those speakers. smile.gif

Being a fanboy of Klipsch reference series quality speakers for decades I post, congratulations on your Klipsch score. biggrin.gif
