I'm unable to audition most speakers I would consider because I live on the east coast and most shops are in CA. I really like bright, ringy high frequencies in my speakers, so I'm looking for recommendations (subjective as they might be) for those who have had the benefit of hearing several leading brands.
Here is my current setup:
Polk Monitor 70's L&R
Polk CS-1 Center
2 Polk OWM-3 surrounds
Denon AVR 789
60% movies/40% music (SACD, multi-channel audio)
I am on the verge of buying a sub (Hsu VTF-1). One main reason I went with the Polks was because I knew I wouldn't have a sub, so I wanted some towers to give me enough bass to tide me over until I could afford a good one. I haven't really loved the highs of the Polks though (maybe it's the center channel speaker).
I have been looking at Ascend CBM-170's or Arx A1b, something in the "budeget" category. Can I expect to get to a boost in the highs and mids to rationalize selling my Polk towers and shelling out the cash for some really good bookshelves, or will this be negated by the addition of the sub?
Thanks for your thoughts!
