Thats very cool of Jeff. He sure seems like a real nice guy. Look forward to doing business with him some day. I'm upgrading speakers in my HT, well actually saving to upgrade. Will for sure get Tripple 8s but may get SHO-10s first than save up later for the 888s.

That may be my path as well. Jeff was great to deal with and went out of his way to make sure that I was accommodated.

Yes, Jeff is very accommodating .. smile.gif

The SHO-10 appears to be a prime example of what can be done with inexpensive, off the shelf parts. With the performance described by GTG attendees and at a $350 each price point, it seems to represent a great value. It may be unfair to compare it to the Triple-8's with a coaxial/CD driver that alone costs close to as much as an entire finished SHO-10. Add in the hand built xovers, bass drivers and a very heavy inert cabinet and you have a BOM that is over twice the sell price of the SHO-10. Again, I think that CHT is doing something interesting with their products and perhaps providing a wonderful illustration of the law of diminishing returns in the subjective audio world.

For my part, I have always believed in quality components and have been willing to pay more for perceived quality and value. I would not want to have to validate those perceptions in a true DBT environment as the results might expose my bias and a poor vetting process tongue.gif.

Well, I'm now considering the used speaker front. That will allow me to get the some of the JTR's for a good price and then let me buy more as I go. We'll see how that works out.

You should try Episode 700 series rather than going for used ones or ebay units. Though Episode 900 series is pricey, 700 series speakers are a great value for money. The ES-HT700-IWLCR-6 speakers include the backbox just like the Triad speakers, and the ES-700-IWLCR-5 are the lower version of 700 series that does not include a backbox but is priced in par with SHO-10.
