Is that the amp you'd be using?

I remember that it was designed so that you could raise the bass boost level to bring it in line around 50Hz with the level around 200Hz-ish (I think), but there was definitely a bump in between. So it could be use for "sort of" full-range sound...

Here's the graph of the bass boost:

It's been sitting in a box collecting dust since I swapped it out for the modified version some years back. I figured I would put it to good use. This thread is just reminding me why it's been sitting in the box unused. Maybe a nice Tripath based T-amp like the Dayton Audio DTA-100a (or similar) will do the trick.

Thanks for the link, but I can't view the attachment because it's not downloadable by non members and I'm banned on CHT (even though Craig doesn't do that wink.gif ) so logging in won't help either.

Those look great if I can come up with an anonymous benefactor who wants to give me ~$1500. biggrin.gif

So I went ahead and ordered the Airmotiv 4 along with a new USB DAC / Headphone amp / Pre. The "old" USB DAC / headphone amp I had didn't have a variable line output which seemed essential for active monitors with no common/shared volume control between the L&R speaker.

Nice. I dig the Airmotiv4 alot... Hopefully you'll enjoy them too.

That DAC looks interesting - did you buy from the site in the link?

Yes, I previously bought a NFB-10SE from them that I've been very happy with that I use at home with my Hifiman HE-500 phones. I've subsequently rewired the headphones to be balanced (4 pin XLR) and take full advantage of the NFB-10SE DAC / Amp.

Well, I got the Airmotiv 4's today. Unfortunately, one of them managed to contain about 1/3rd of the contents of the silica packet it was shipped with. I had to completely disassemble the speaker removing the port, drivers and amp in order get them all out. Further, the cabinet has some nice dimples in the finish on the outside of it from the same balls that escaped the silica packet. mad.gif
