Is your total budget $700 for 5 speakers, subwoofer and a receiver? I want to make sure that's clear.

Yeah it's pretty low. I'll probably update bits and pieces down the line.

If you plan to update over time then just start off with a receiver and two speakers or receiver 2 speakers and sub.

How big is the room and what's your planned usage home theater vs music. vs gaming?

What devices do you already have? TV? Blu Ray? DVD? Gaming Device? Sat or cable receiver? Are they all HDMI devices?

Home entertainment, not home theater room. That means open. It's about medium size. I have a projector set up, and ps3, and a few other devices, all hdmi. I have all the receivers stuff done. I just need to know what speakers to get. My couch is about 10-12 feet from the screen. I have two walls. One behind the screen, and one to the left of the couch.

When I say I plan to update over time, I mean, use what I got for about 5 years before upgrading. Yeah, not that great. I want to start off with a 5.1 and update the components as I go on. My receiver's a 7.2 so I don't necessarily have to upgrade my sub by replacing it. I could add another one. I know starting off with two good speakers and a receiver is better, but I would prefer to always have a 5.1.

So you've already purchased the receiver? If so then your speaker budget is closer to $400-$450?
