I would like to order a set of of either DV64 or DV84 towers over the next day or two.

I would be using them mostly for music in a 26' x 15' room.

Currently using Def Tech ProCinema 800 setup and they sound great but I miss the KEF 104 towers I used to have. They had 2 8" woofers in a twin coupled cavity, 2 4" mids and a 1" tweeter in each enclosure.

I see a lot of debate re: the 8" woofers in the 84 vs. the 6 1/2" woofer in the 64.

I see that they also make a tower with a horn tweeter but not sure that would be for me.

I listen to classical, easy listening and some jazz.

Would it make any difference which of these I purchase if I use or don't use a sub?

Running a Marantz Sr7007.

I'm more interested in imaging and clarity and then "shaking the walls" for either high volume music or movies.

I will probably get the matching center and bookshelf spkrs for rears.

I don't play music at very high listening levels, mostly background or around 40db or serious listening.

Thanks for any input.

I am a noob to Home Theater audio so take what I say with a grain of salt...

I've owned the BIC Venturi DV64 towers for about a month now and I really like them a lot.

If you're looking for towers with lots of bass, these are probably not your cup of tea. I have a powered sub setup, so big time low end was not a factor for me when deciding what to buy. These DV64 towers sound really good, nice and warm, with good, tight, punchy bass. I find them to be very accurate, with great midbass, midrange, and highs. Unlike some owners, I do not find the tweeters to be harsh at all, in fact just the opposite, they sound very tight and blend well into the soundstage. Voices are clear and melodious. The passive radiators are particularly cool, and they really do add a lot of bass to the speakers.

I broke them in for a week on full range, and they did hit freqs below the factory listed 29hz, but there was serious drop off below 35-40hz. I would assume the DV84s go a bit lower and louder. Audessey agreed with me on the DV64's range and crossed them over at the minimum of 40hz (which I have since revised to 60hz).

I've played 2 channel stereo using only the towers and found it most enjoyable. I cranked them up and they can get quite loud with no distortion, even rattling my patio doors with the bass.

All in all, I am very happy with them and I have no problem recommending them. Classical music is quite a pleasant experience with these speakers.

Hope this helps. I also have the DV62si, the DV52si, and the 62CLRS if you are curious about them, as well...

Thanks a lot for the input. Actually considering the dv62si and also the dv62clr. Seems to be exactly the same setup as yours.

How are the dv62's working out? Are you using them as surrounds?

Yes, I use the DV62si for surround and the DV52si for rear surround. I love the 62CLRS. Voices are so much clearer, and well-imaged. Big box, though, had to rig my TV stand to get enough clearance underneath.

The 62s are still breaking in, I've only had them hooked up for 5 days but I already am impressed. They have surprisingly strong low end for a bookshelf speaker. I really like the design, too. I have them on stands in our LR, and before I mounted them I had the 52s there. My wife took one look at how much bigger the 62 was and she was like "uh...no way", but I told her to give it a chance and now that I have them up, she likes the way they look. Man, it's so much different, coming from cheap 3" HTiB drivers. These satellites have such range and sound so full and clear.

I mean, I know my system isn't the bomb shizzy or anything and I don't have much exposure to more expensive HT speakers, but I am lovin' it! biggrin.gif

Can't wait to upgrade the sub.
