Hey Guys,

First time posting here but long time reader. I know I'm not the only one on here looking for advise but i have viewed many forums and this one seems to offer the best help and advice out there.

My current set up:

Samsung LN46A850
Denon AVR 1912
Bose Acoustimass 10
Klipsch Synergy Sub-12

Ok, to my question:

I have just purchased a new Samsung UN60ES7500. I want to build a new speaker system around it.

I would like to start with some tower speakers. I have come across some deals for KEF iQ70 and Polk Audio Monitor 70 series II for the same price. Here is the problem. I dont have a way to sample the 2 speakers, so i will be going off the expertise that is on this forum.

Last question:

what would be the better buy when it comes to buying a center channel.

Thanks a bunch.

- JM

Definitely get the KEF, instead of Polk.

KEF makes those $160,000 speakers; maybe a little of that has trickled down to the mere mortal models. biggrin.gif

For the center, I would get the iQ60c or iQ30 or iQ10 bookshelf speakers.

I figured KEF would be a better choice all around.

Do the bookshelf speakers make a good substitute for a center channel?

Absolutely, yes.

I prefer using vertical speakers, instead of horizontal.

You ever wonder why most speakers are vertical? They usually measure better and sound better. Horizontal is a compromise for HT since most people don't have the space for vertical center speakers. But horizontal speakers can still sound great for center channel.

So, yes, bookshelf speakers will do a great job as a center speaker.

Sounds like a awesome setup. Do you like my sub will match well with the speaker upgrades.

While we are at it what about receiver?

Denon 3310 used.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002AKKFQ2/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1347561593&sr=8-1&keywords=Denon+3310&condition=used

Denon 990 new.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002AKKFRG/ref=sr_1_4_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1347561593&sr=8-4&keywords=Denon+3310&condition=new

But, call Electronics Express and see if they have any Denn 3312 left they can sell for around $600.

Amazon sold the Denon 3312 new for $550 one time. That was a great sale. biggrin.gif

The Energy S10.3 sub is a very good sub for its sale price of $200 at Newegg, and I would bet it is roughly comparable in class to your Klipsch Sub-12 overall (one might be better at some things than the other).

However, if you want great bass to match your new amazing speakers, something like the Rythmik FV12 is a very good entry level enthusiast class sub that would be worth considering.

If you could spend a little more, the SVS PB12-NSD, HSU VTF-3 MK4, or Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX. Here are reviews for a couple of those
