Hey Jon! Thanks for chiming in and putting it in layman's terms for me...

It's funny about that, because I find myself going back trying to find older music and movies to play, to "hear what I was missing" (if anything).

Without Music, life would be a mistake... (FN)
There are no facts, only interpretations... (FN)

PS3, HK AVR-254, HK DVD-38, Yamaha YBA-11, Panasonic TC-55LE54, Chane A2rx-c L/C/R, Chane A1rx-c LR/RR, Rythmic Sub on the way.

I had a small write up on these speakers, compared to my EMP Impressions.

Then I ran Audyssey XT32, and my thoughts changed. I'm going to give them a bit more time, but wow what a difference.

A term listeners to very high end gear often use is "connectedness". While that's a different context than the affordable gear arena, the principles can still apply. Connectedness is that sense of having little or nothing between the listener and the recording.

This doesn't mean the affordable system doesn't have very audible differences to live sound, because it does. To some degree all systems do. But it does indicate that despite them you can suspend your disbelief and immerse in the performance, at least partially.

(I currently have a $300 5.25" speaker pair set up and a $2000 6.5" pair set up in the same space using the same front end. The less expensive system is distinctly more invisible to the music. It's therefore more of a design philosophy than a technology or cost. It's a little unsettling, actually.)

Systems and components that can do this tend to be referred to in musical terms and not technical terms. You'll rarely hear labels like "better treble" or "more bass" or even "more detail", but rather, "I could hear what was really going on", and "I felt like I was there".

It's not for everyone and it's not common, but it can and does exist and it can be a fun effect to witness...
