Can anyone make suggestions for 7 in-wall speaker system around the $3000 range. Not including sub. There is a $1200 budget for the sub. All speakers will be located behind acoustical panels

I was looking at klipsch, but not too sure about that.

This is for a dedicated theater room 17x16x8 for movies

Thanks

JOE

I would take a look at Definitive Technology. Spend the majority of your budget on the front 3. The speakers are enclosed and have had some great feedback on this forum.

I'll second the Atlantics since that is what I am using. smile.gif

I will tell you it is difficult to find a place to demo various in-wall brands given th nature of the beast - but do your best to listen to as many brands as posssible. In-walls are a little harder to switch out than a tower or bookshelf style

Thanks everyone. I am thinking maybe since I have 9" of space between the theater interior walls and the foundation, that maybe I can mount regular bookshelfs or similar speakers between the studs then cover them with the acoustic panels.

Not sure what to do, I just didn't want to sacrifice sound going with in walls.

Can speakers designed for wall mounting or free standing be installed between studs and close to a concrete foundation wall or is this a bad thing to do?

I can tell you we use James Loudspeaker closed box inwalls and we sacrifice nothing.

I would not mount bookshelf speakers in the wall. Either go in-wall or on-wall, but I woud go in-wall. I have the Deftech UIW RLS II speakers and like them. The series is in your budget.

I would consider Triad Gold LCR or Monitors. LCRs can play louder and may be better for home theater and monitors are better for music. Ask any questions on Triad thread.

Also, I would look at B&W in-walls. B&W just announced a new higher end in-wall CWM 8.3 as well as older 7.3. The 7.3 may be more in your budget as the price of 8.3 may be higher. As the 8.3 was just released, I have not seen an actual price.

Not sure if you are the type to gamble on speakers on the 'bay, but I came across these while hunting for on wall bronze surrounds.
I have no affiliation with this item, set of three in wall silver LCRs and 2 in wall silver surrounds.

look a little rough cosmetically (from the way they were installed I would guess) grills might be a little pricey to replace, but for the money, a lot of speaker.

Thanks weasel, yes I have been watching them for a few days. I am concerned that they are 10 years old though.
Thoughts on the age of them?

And also to be clear all of my speakers will be behind my acoustic panels so I don't even need grills

Having the back four surrounds as inwalls would be ok but having the front stage be regular speakers will give you a lot more for your dollar. Have you considered an acoustically transparent screen? That way the front three would still be hidden.

Dumb enough to spend lots of cash on this junk!

Thanks flying , yes and this is most likely what I am going to do. My room is a little over 16 feet wide so I have room on both sides of the screen for the fronts and below the screen for the center. Now I just have to start my stage construction to conceal these front speakers. smile.gif.

If you want a great HT speaker then I would suggest the CHT SHO-10 for the front three.

that is always the gamble, could have been ten years of hell, or ten years of sitting mostly unused......was the humidity in the room always controlled......can I still get replacement drivers if anything is blown? I am of the opinion that the components Triad uses could easily hold up for ten years if not abused.
if the cabinets are solid, and nothing is blown, that is a lot of speaker for $1K, but there is something to be said for new product under warranty that you have return options with if you have second thoughts after hearing them in your room.
if these were on wall and in room versions of these speakers that i am searching/ saving for, even with the paint and no grills, I would have taken a chance on them myself.
