I'm in the process of building a 7.1 system with a Denon AVR-2112CI. I currently have some low end Yamaha speakers and a KW-100 from my college years. I'm starting out with just the front two speakers because of budget constraints and I really don't watch movies that much. I'll probably buy refurbs speakers to keep cost down. I'm trying to keep the first speaker purchase under $800, but I'm okay with going up to $1200. Is it a good idea if I buy KEF Q700 initially and move them to my back speakers next spring when I make my next purchase?

My Listening Behaviors
  • 70% music (iTunes AAC/FLAC)
  • 10% Vinyl
  • 10% Movies (Amazon, Netflix, and an old HD-DVD player)
  • 10% TV (almost all NFL)
  • In the future I'll buy a game console

Room Specs
  • Apartment build in the late 1800s, high ceilings
  • Hardwood floors
  • 16'x12'x11'
  • If you are looking at the TV, the left 16' wall and back wall are all windows
  • There is no wall on the right, it is open to the dinning room 16'x30'

Perfectly fine to build your setup as times moves forward. If you're set on KEF, I would suggest picking up the Q300's + a sub instead of the Q700's only for now. I would think Q300's would be just fine for surrounds and not take up much space in your smaller space.

Yeah, there's a possibility that anything higher than the Q300 will sound underpowered.
