I recently purchased a pair of rear surround speakers, the left rear was four times closer to my head than the right and was much louder kindof ruining the effect.

these rear speakers have been returned they basicalley sounded like PC speaker.

here's what I currently have fronts Polk M30s, CS1 CC and Polk DSW mirco pro 1000 1200 watt sub w/ Yamaha RX-V465 AVR I am satisifed w/ the sound quaility would like a little suround effect.

I'm curious about adding just one Polk RM6751 and having a 4.1 sys.

edit: I don't have a speaker calerbrating mircrophone yet.

Thanks STB

I am not sure how that would sound, but you could have corrected the problem by simple dialing down that surround speaker that was closest to you by 4-5 decibels and see how it sounded.

edit for mounting the left rear would reqiure drilling a hole in the wall not quite sure if I want to mount to the wall right side would be easy.

Thanks STB

I am not familiar with Yamaha receivers, but most receivers have this option. It should probably be in the menu of the receiver and is probably called something like speaker level calibration.

As far as the left speaker goes if you have some kind of table or something you could place it on there. Not ideal by any means, but if you really don't want to put a hole in the wall you have to make some sacrifices.

OK thanks Smigro for the tips. I'll be reading up a little on my AVR.if I remember correctly the manuel adjustments on the Yamaha AVR had a distance choice.

I was mainly curious about speakers being sold individaulley for folks that want to add a single channel. who are these folks like what are they trying to acomplish only adding a single channel?

edit Eagles have been very lucky latey are you a Vick fan

Thanks STB

IMO stick with either 3.1 or 5.1..... Cuz technically 4.1 is 5.1 with no center channel.... But you should be able to adjust the individual levels of each speaker so lessening the sound coming out of the speaker close to your head should work. Also you said about the distance Yes change that as well, what that setting does is adjust the time delay so the sound from each speaker reaches your ears at the correct times.

Well before the whole 7.1 surround format there was/is a 6.1 format where you had just one speaker basically right behind the main LP; I think it is called DTS Neo6 or something like that. I never messed with this format so I do not know how good it was.

They could also just be selling speakers by the each for anyone who needs a replacement. I remember with my first surround sound (Boston Acoustic MCS100) I dropped one of the surrounds and it did something to the speaker. I took me a little searching but I finally found some place that sold them individually.

Yes, the Eagles have been lucky so far...they should be 0-3 just like they were last year. At first I was not the biggest Vick fan (this goes back to his days as a Falcon), but he has grown on me. If Andy Reid would stop trying to make him a pocket passer and let him just do his thing I think the results would be much better. Guess we see this weekend. Me, my brother and my dad are all going to the Giants game this Sunday night...can't wait to see them retire Brian Dawkins number. I honestly think I might shed a tear or two at the ceremony.

I could have read it wrong, but I think he was implying about having a center, left and right up front with just one surround speaker.

Roger that. I was running 6.1 with heights for a while until I finally found someone selling a used eD[c]12 for my center channel...lucked out on that one.
