Has anyone purchased their LS50  from this Independent Audio Video for $1150?  I am scared of being scammed.  Are they an authorized dealer?

what is the best amplifier for this speakers? Is Emotiva UPA-700 or XPA-100 + Cambridge Audip DacMagic Plus a good match with LS50?

There are a ton gtg that had the ascend Sierra matched against other speakers...I was at one. Might want to search them out. Fwiw, I think the Sierra is an excellent speaker but the ls50 is one of the top speakers I heard in my life and I am old:-).

I'm 'old' like Randy ;-), and have owned some of the same speakers as he has (Ascend and Salk). The LS50's performance is stunning. I bought them just to put in my 2 channel system until I could decide on another full range speaker, but I'm not going to bother now. All I can say is 'wow'.

Did you own the Sierra-1?  Which Salk did you own?

Are you using the LS50 with a sub?

Hi,
Independent Audio Video is not an Authorized KEF retailer. We cannot grantee that you will receive an authentic KEF product.

Best regards,

Yes, I had a pair of Sierra-1's for a while. Very nice bookshelf speaker, though IMO not on par with the ls-50.
I still own Salk speakers. I've owned a lot of Jim's speakers.

No sub at this point.

Ordered three of these for LCR. Should get them in a few weeks. I'm excited to get to hear them.

Can anyone recommend a good AVR to run 3 (or maybe 5) LS50's in a HT setup? I've heard negative reports on Denon AVR's re the LS50's and have been looking at the Pioneer Elite series.

(I'd prefer to not use separate amps for cost and family-friendliness reasons.)

Hey there,

I can recommend NAD, Cambridge Audio and Rotel.

Cheers,

i see,the sub is very accurate and detailed (no more blurry thumps!). This sub has a very small form factor for a 12" sub - it's basically a 14" cube. I wanted a small form factor so that I could upgrade to dual subs down the road.thanks

Hi sdq7vfx,

I've been using a Sony STR-DA5700ES (130 w.p.ch. rated) with good results in a medium sized living / dining room. Will output some loud enough db's for music and or 5.1 usage.

^^^ Thanks. It looks like I missed some great discounts on the Sony several months ago - argh!

I've been doing some research for 7.2 AVRs that easily handle 4Ohm speakers (and are roughly in my preferred price range), these have come up ...

Cambridge Audio Azur 551 (7.1 only, no room correction/EQ?)

Sony STR-DA5700ES

Yamaha RX-A1020

Pioneer Elite S63

Anyone running LS50's with any of these receivers? If the differences aren't significant I'm leaning towards the Yamaha or Pioneer as their significantly less expensive.

Other suggestions also welcome wink.gif

I've been so happy with my STR-DA5700ES, I ended up buying 2. A few big selling features for me : hi-rez USB and wired networking capability built right in (no external hi-rez DAC required with this receiver).

Thanks! Oye, if I could find it for the same price it was on sale for a few months ago (around $800) I'd snag it, but not ready to write off some of the other options just yet.

I believe the general consensus is Yamaha's room correction software is weak. I have tried the Yamaha v473 receiver, and it barely did any room correction compared to Audyssey XT on the Denon 1713.

Sorry that there is a wait for these. These speakers perform very well and because of that, have been in high demand. smile.gif

Anyone using these in a desktop setup? Sounds like they were designed with nearfield in mind. Any feedback?

Yes they are really good :)

I decided to transform a small room ( 12 x 13 x 9) into an HT for the kids, got three more LS50 to have a 5.1 system, I might make it to 9.1 :) But with other KEFs since the really important ones are the five surround sound

You mean on a desk with the monitor in between? If so, I do. The single point source idea really works smile.gif Tilting the desk + room correction is essential for this kind of setup. IsoAcoustic stands on the desk are also a perfect match.

Is there some kind of an adapter able to connect a bi-wire speaker cable with bananas to the back of the single banana posts on the LS50?

Also, anyone compare the LS50 to the new Dynaudio X14? Both look to be the same price.

I don't have mine yet so I'm not sure if this will work on the LS50's. On a different pair of speakers, I was able to loosen the binding posts and stick one banana plug in where one would normally put a bare wire. The other banana plug I put in normally.
drewTT likes this.
