As far as speaker cables go that can be highly subjective. wink.gif I do however use both Copper Nordost and some Silver Nordost and I have some Tributaries stranded copper as well. . I have had Goertz in the past.. Now I know why KEF has won a ton of awards with this speaker. Pretty wowed by it so far and I am a huge Dynaudio Fan, which I also like a lot.

Yeah my Goertz are a little short (4' each), they are stretched across from the amp to the speakers, with not much slack. So I will hold off until I know where the speakers end up before buying something (?) a little longer.

The KEFs are definitely good enough where one can "grow" a system into them. In other words, upgrading other parts of the system knowing the speakers are fine as is and will reflect any upgrade.

LS50 owners, post what your using for a Int. and or Pre/Power Amp combo and any suggestions of course! Looking at purchasing a good Int. Amp for an office at a decent cost and these are some I am looking at....... So far just with a inexpensive Int. Amp A100 from Emotiva I am impressed on the sound quality. Someone said you can pair these?

No specific order:
Anthem 225 a ton of power and good reviews.
Rogue Sphinx Int. Amp
Hegel H70
Creek 5350
Marantz
PeachTree
Musical Fidelity M3i

etc...

Niam101: Ironically I just bid on the 8004 Marantz unit. So I might end up with a unit close to that one, plus it has gotten very favorable reviews.

I may be a little late to the party but I am just a new member here. I got KEF LS50's 3 weeks ago.  Source is Oppo 103, and I am using the pre-amp section of my old NAD C340 into an Emotiva XPA-200 150wpc power amp.  I also integreated a REL T9 sub with the system.

Here are some observations:

-the 150wpc amp really gives the speakers a lot of control and finesse as compare to using the amp of the NAD Integrated (50wpc)

-My room dimensions lent itself subject to some gain in the 40Hz to 50Hz frequencies which was hard to tame and integrate with a sub.  I somehow managed to get it right by using KEF's port plugs in setting 2 (meaning the donut setting).  My previous speakers just had a port plug - so it's either in or out. With the KEF, there are 2 settings for more flexibility and tuning so I love that arrangement.

-the music being "point source" or grain-free midrange or accurate soundstaging - well I need not discuss that part since it has been discussed so much in this thread.

All in all, it is a really great speaker!

Has anyone had a chance for a direct comparison of the LS50 and the new Ascend Sierra-2?

I posted this before just curious what is a cool looking stand to go with these KEFs? Prefer metal stands or a good composite.

Running a pair of LS50 for 2.0 music currently. Testing with Harman Kardon 3490 receive that puts out 150 watts into 4 ohm. 120 into 8. And a Primaluna Prologue One with EL34 tubes.

In short, the H&K has more detail in the mids, while the Primaluna had significantly more punch in the bass, though the mids are less resolved.

Would like to have the best of both world - a warm system with good detail and bass punch. If I could get the bass on the solid state as with the Prima Luna, I would not need a sub.

Any suggestions? Which soild state amp has a house sound that has a bit more bass? And having tone control is helpful though perhaps purists may thumb their nose at it. (i.e. NAD C375Bee)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Depends on what your looking for, are you looking to go separates? Vincent Audio has a very nice Tube/Hybrid Amp that puts out 150wpc. Peachtree/Hegel/Rogue Audio/Creek/Musical Fidelity etc...

The LS50s love power, also dependent on the size of room. I currently have my LS50 hooked up to a Marantz 8004 with good results in my office, but I do move them to my main listening room where I have a Musical Fidelity KW-500 which puts out plenty of power and now I am getting spoiled so they might stay there. wink.gif

These certainly look cool! Not sure how study though, the KEFs are definitely not lightweight toy speakers. See post 296 in this thread.

Okay, with this post and mrlittlejeans above, we have contact info for Mike and JD. It would be nice if KEF made some type of dust covers for these speakers that you could use to cover the speaker when not in use. Since most speakers have grills, it would be nice to have, some thing tells me there is a company that does this.

jkhome: Nice looking stands, a tad too high unless your 6'5 sitting down. BELL'O I think makes those and they have them in different sizes. I was thinking of these since they are in gloss black!

I'm using those same stands on my LS50's. I got mine on Amazon for less than $100 for the pair. Bello somethings.

jima4a,

There are several ways to do this.

1. Subscribe to threads that both Mike and JD are regular contributors to. Within the thread, do search for their name.
2. Follow Mike and JD via their profiles.
