Of course with the difference in price tag is something to be said!

No doubt. Those B&W's are a special speaker, it has been a few years since I sat in front of a pair. Apples and oranges, my comment was tongue and cheek.

I have a pair of speakers arriving today, although that is for another thread.

Contemplating replacing my Dynaudio BM5A MKIIs with a pair of LS50s and a Parasound A23. Preamp is a Benchmark DAC2 HGC and sources are AIFF files on iMac and vinyl via a Pro-Ject Carbon w/ SpeedBox, Acryl-It platter and 2M Blue cartridge. Room is 10'W x 11.5'L x 9'H. I have DIY soffit traps all the way around the room along with Superchunks in the front corners. Music is rock from all decades and jazz on vinyl from the 50s-60s. They'll be placed on stands out into the room and listened to nearfield.

Thoughts?

The room:

Absolutely nothing wrong with an outboard amp and an AVR. The dacs, eq, crossover, bass management etc. Are usually very good. I have a Demon AvR 100 driving a Van Alstine U70 tube amp, divine.

Can someone suggest how I can intergrate a 2 channel amp for my system. How would you suggest I hook up my system? Currently I have my LG 9600 hooked into my Marantz SR7005 via HDMI. I have my Squeezebox touch Hooked into my AVR(streaming from my Mac). via analog. I have my Fios box into my AVR and my Apple TV hooked into my AVR( both HDMI).I also have a Adcom GFA 555 hooked into my zone 2 on my AVR to power my outside, dining room, kitchen and living room( via Adcom speaker selector). Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

You have pre-outs for the front 2 channels (all channels in fact). Interconnects from front left and right pre outs to the amp of your choice. Let the set up calibration match the levels.

Sorry I'm exactly sure what you mean? I guess I'm wondering if I'm better off using my Adcom for two channel with my LS50 then somehow/also use the with my marantz for TV and other multichannel uses?

What I mean is that generally the amplifier sections of most home theater receivers are the weakest link. Your adcom may wind up being a better match for the LS-50s, will certainly drive a lot more current. it is a somewhat old amp though. In my case I have a Denon AVR100A receiver and use a Van Alstine U70 tube amp to drive my front speakers. You won't need necessarily tons of power, just quality amplification. Likely you will also cross over the LS-50s at 80 hz or higher, relieving the amp and speakers of some of the heavy lifting in the bass region.

Thanks. Under that hookup, How will i be able to use my rear surrounds, center and sub? Run the marantz and the adcom at the same time? Will i be able to hook the speaker selector into Front A, which is currently used with my LS50's or front B(vacant). I currently have the crossover set @80(via audyessy). Should I go higher?

Simply hook up the amp to the front left and right pre-outs. Make sure the speakers are connected to the amp, not the receiver. smile.gif Audessy will do the rest. You will use the amps in the receiver for surrounds, center and sub will be via the sub out, right? Audessy will select the crossover but you can always put it where it sounds best. If you had stereo subs, or a pair, as I do you would be able to set the crossover higher without losing separation.

I think im staring to understand. I currently have the Adcom hooked into the "preout L/R" and the speaker selector hooked into the Adcom. So i can just leave the Adcom pluged into the marantz as is? Just change the F L/R into the Adcom? Any thoughts on the speaker selector? Into one of the fronts A/B? Thanks again for your patience.

Imagine a 11.4 with all KEF-LS50 and 4 SB13-Ultra that would make a great theater!

No speaker selector. I suppose you could use speaker B outputs from the Adcom to drive the other room and speaker A for the main fronts but the other room would be subject to crossover and EQ. You could always defeat that. The idea here would be for you to be able to use an amp that would be a good match for the LS-50. I am not sure that the Adcom would be that amp.

Do you think the KEF LS-50 would be good surround to the B&W 800Diamonds !

I crossover the surrounds at 80 HZ as they are driven by a single CA-5200 amp. The 800D in the front I cross over at 40 HZ for movies

Tell you what, ill buy you the LS50s for the surrounds you'll replace them with and you can just give me your old speakers. That way, I'm the only one that spent any money, you get new surround speakers and you get rid of your old ones in one fail swoop!

Ok as long as you buy the Sonus Faber Elipsa SE in addition then we have a deal. That 's the reason why I would even think to sell the 802D surround

Here are my new toys!

Don't mind the speaker stands. I am experimenting
with speaker height. Building custom stands to
bring the left and right speakers out 6-10 inches into the room.

The LS50 works better than expected as a center.
Because it is semi enclosed I am using both port plugs.
Had to buy 2 pair so I am left with an extra.
Anybody need one?

How much are you asking for the 2nd speaker? PM me, I might be interested. I also have a decent sized room which is open to the kitchen. How does these sound midfield? My listen position would be about 12 feet away.

I sit 6 feet away from the surround speakers so the dynamics are fine, I will experiment this weekend and see how it sounds! Will let you know.

I went to Look and Listen in Mobile Al this afternoon and listened to the LS50s. Absolutely amazing, I know why they are nicknamed Mini Reference! wse, they should be very good as surrounds, I am trying to figure out how to use them as my SR and SL, wiring is my challenge.
