A guy on craigslist is selling a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 50s for 125 bucks. I was thinking of getting the 60s but at the price I'm strongly considering buying what this guy has. I'd be pairing it up with my Yamaha RX-V373 which right now is using the speakers from my LG HTiB (LG SB95SA) - Needless to say I'm not getting the full benefit of having a standalone receiver with those speakers. There are also some Polk R40s for 85 and a Polk Audio CS1 Center speaker for 39 dollars although I'm strongly considering waiting and buying a CS20. I heard that on a budget, the CS20 is quite the speaker.

You would be saving $75 by buying "used" vs. new for a pair Monitor50's from newegg.com
Is the price difference enough to possibly buy someone else's problems and lose the Polk warranty ? It's your choice.
Both the 50's and the 60's are usually on sale at very good prices from Newegg, so you might sign up for their "E-blast" sales email so you will know when the sales are on. Same for the 40's and a CS2 (the designation for the Monitor series larger center channel speaker).

When the 50's come on sale they're $80 each, so for $35 more you can get new speakers with 5 year warranty. I'd wait for the Newegg sale instead.

Offer $1 (dollar) a pound.
That would be about $52.00

Thanks for the link!

Fry's has the monitor 50s on sale for 49.99 each right now...A local store has a CS20 for 80 bucks used. I think I just found my LCR speakers....UNLESS! There would be a big difference between monitor 60s, 70s or say some Klipsch speakers.

So there's tthe monitor 50s for 49 each and some Jamo S426 for 69.99 each.

so get the Polk 50's and the CS20, then enjoy that while you save up... then get some M70's to put up front, move the 50's to sides, enjoy some more, and save up again to add a decent sub. You'll be good for at least 4-6 months until the upgrade bug hits again. And you'll have a very capable set-up the whole time.... every upgrade in that chain will be worth it... at least it was for me... YMMV.
hope it helps,
Joseph

What a long, strange trip its been....
