Hello All,

Last year I purchased a SVS PB-12 NSD sub. I have been itching to replace my Polk Tsi200s and Polk Cs20.

I am looking for the speaker that is best for music.

I have been torn on whether I should be getting towers or bookshelfs with stands but due to size constraints I am currently leaning more towards bookshelfs.

My local dealer is a DefTech/Goldenear authorized seller, and I have been looking at some bookshelf speakers from both of those companies.

The two I am thinking about are the GoldenEar Aon3 and the Def Tech Studiomonitor 65. From people who have heard either of these what are your opinions?

Also, do people think towers would be a better option for me in $1,000 price range? If so, what are some models people would recommend (don't have to def tech or goldenear)?

I would appreciate any responses thank you.

The Kef iQ90 is a good value from Vanns.com. Kef just released a new version of this series, so you are getting closeout prices.

For bookshelf speakers, you'll see can find a lot of threads here on AVS recommending and discussing the Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1.

Look at Focal from AC4L - new in the box, and good price.

Have you heard them before? Will my Marantz SR5005 have an issue driving them?

I have not listened to those towers - however, I have owned Focal speakers
in the past. Focal is good with music and movies > As long as you keep the
volume under extreme levels, the Marantz receiver will drive them.

How do you like the IQ30's? I am seriously looking at them for $349/pair direct from KEF. I had a pair of I believe Q50's from way back in '93. I kept them one day and returned them, just hated the sound. I have heard that Uni-Q has matured since then, and many rave about them.

My 5.1 is 3 iQ3 across the front and a pair of iQ1 in the rear (with a Rythmik F12 to round things out); these are the predecessors to iQ30 and iQ10...

...they sound great and are an incredible deal for the money cool.gif

Right now I am torn between the Focal's from Accessories 4 Less the Wharfedale from Music Direct and the Kef's.

One thing I do know is I don't like overly bright speakers. Are any of those brands known to be bright sounding?

No - however, you do get a lot of detail and definition from Focal. I have sensitive ears
and the Focal tweeter is nice, and one of the best to my ears. > Need to remeber, that
the source also plays a big part - there are still a lot of poor recordings around.
