Looking for recommendations for in-wall or on-wall speakers.
Ideally I'd keep it under $3K for LCR & surround. I'll deal with sub separately.
I'll mount them/install them around a 60" or 65" plasma.
50-50 music/movies. Music matters, but I don't do 5.1 music, so priority is on LCR.
If it's in-wall, I think I'm only interested if they have an enclosure.
My priority is the best sound I can get for the price, but looks matter too (or I'd go floorstanding).

My previous set-up was B&W CM series from about 8 years ago and a DefTech sub. They were great for music, but I always felt the B&W center was a little sub-par for movies.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, almost forgot -- room is about 19x17 and open into the kitchen.

B&W makes enclosed speakers along with Triad, Episode, Definitive Technology, Totem, Niles, etc.

In your budget I do recommend the Defeinitive Technology UIW RLS series for your front three mains. I am using these speakers curently and am quite happy with them. Triad, to me, sounded the best of all the in-wall speakers I demoed, but they will most likely be over your budget by a lot smile.gif

Here is a link to the Definitive Technology speakers I am using:

To save a little, you can go with this model that has slightly smaller drivers:

You should be able to buy them new for around $1200 shipped or less and that would leave money for surrounds and a good subwoofer.

I would also look into Episode speakers. They use folded ribbon tweeters, which I tend to like a lot for music. Here is a link to their site:

You most likely will need to find a local dealer/installer to buy them.

ack_bk,

Small world, I'm just down the road from you. I'm wondering where you picked up your UIW-RLS IIs? I see some good deals on ebay.

Also, do you know anywhere in town to audition some different in-wall speakers?
