I am looking for a center speaker for 5.1 surround. I was looking at the procenter 2000 or a older clr2002. There are new deftechs that have a sub in the center speaker like the cs8060.

Is ths over kill ?

I want to save money but get the best speaker possible. I already have a deftech sub. Do i even need a center with a sub?

If you already have a sub, the ProCenter 2000 will work splendidly crossed over at 80 Hz. No need for another sub in there.

I had the 2002 center and i traded for the CLR 2500 with the powered sub and i love it....The 2002 was a good center but the 2500 is better..It was a good improvement for my system...

I use the Def Tech 2500 for center channel. It's not a "true" sub-woofer, but it works very well for me crossed over at 80Hz. Using the built in amp in the center keeps the main amp from overworking at loud volumes.
