Hello everyone

This is my first thread, anyways my dad decided to hire contractors to make our first home theater system for our house, however I think it all went downhill when he bought the Bose acoustimass 10. Although it sounds ok to me, I feel that it would have been a better option to get something like a Harman/Kardon BDS 770 or a klipsch HD 500. I'm a noob to HT but not when it comes to headphones and stuff and from my experience there I know bose is mediocre when it comes to sound, however was it a totally bad choice or is it average?

The other components are a 50" Panasonic Viera, a Sony STR-DH520 7.1 Reciever and a Panasonic Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player DMP-BDT220 and finnaly a HD TiVo Box for Cable.

Does your dad have a requirement of very small satellite speakers? I wouldn't want any of those systems if you can get something larger. Not sure how much better or worse the Bose AM10 sounds than the HK BDS 770 or Klipsch HD500 but you can probably get better bang for the buck than Bose.

If you want a better setup upgrade to some bookshelf speakers vs satellites. It'll be a noticesable improvement.

How big is the room?

I would say, below average.

If your dad is happy, great, all done.

But, why is the TV mounted so high?

Lower the TV to eye level when setting and add a decent speaker system... but if he is happy, who am I to say anything.

Not necessarily. When in the most comfortable position in my recliner my eyes are focused on the wall about two feet below the ceiling, so that's where my screen is centered.

+1. If you're going to have a big screen you want a big sound, and you don't get big sound from tiny speakers. That Bose system would be perfect mated with a 20 inch screen.

Ideally when seated you want your eyes about level with the middle of the screen. As others have pointed out, everyone is different perhaps your dad sits in a recliner and has his head tilted.

I concur on the speakers too. But we would need to know your budget to help you and if returning the Bose is even an option.

I like to TV a little higher than at eye level. I like the bottom of the TV at eye level. I like to sprawl out when watching TV. The Bose will sound a lot better than TV speakers, but if you can return them for a full refund, I would.

If your father prefers on wall speakers you may want to look at Def Tech & Paradigm as possible options. Both are reasonably priced.smile.gif

That is eye level for his dad...he also doesn't need a ladder for putting the star on the Christmas tree
