Hey all,

I am getting a stereo system for my house and am wondering if I will need a center channel speaker. Components so far:

- Subwoofer

- Floorstanding Speakers

- Receiver

Is there anything I am missing (center channel or otherwise)? I will be using them mainly for home audio during parties.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Center channel speakers are mainly for dialog on movie soundtracks.
Center speakers are not needed for music, especially if the mains provide a good phantom center image.
Even many DVD-A, SACD discs do not have audio in the center channel.

Custom, one of a kind pair, MJC212 mains, mod PT800 center, PT800 surrounds, SUB1500s. Parasound P7, Citation 19, Parasound HCA2205A, HK AVR3600, Marantz TT, Samsung BD player, Denon DVD-A player, MacBook Pro w/ Dirac Stereo Suite.

Also: even when discussing movies, I don't personally prefer a center channel in all setups. Some rooms have worked better with a phantom'd center for me.
