Long time lurker, first time poster. I am going to start piecing together a system and I have decided to jump on some of the deals going on right now. I am trying to decide between these two speakers for my front channels.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780027

I was set on buying the Polk yesterday then saw that the Klipsch were the same price today and now I can't decide. The sale for the Polks ends today so I need to make a decision rather quickly. Does anyone have experience with these? Also I am looking for a good deal on a 7.1 receiver if anyone is aware of one.

For the price the Monitor 70's are a good choice. I own a pair and for the price I'm satisfied with the sound. I've owned a few Klipsch speakers in the past and I just didn't like
the horns. My son loved them. Just a matter of what rubs your ears right way. That's all I can give you.

I know it's pretty short notice, but I'm hoping to make a decision in the next hour or so. If it makes a difference, the room is roughly 14 x 20, I plan to get the receiver and front channels right now and then add on to it over the next few months as I save up money and find good deals. Also, we are probably planning to move to a bigger house in a few years as we're talking about having another kid so having some room to grow would be nice (thus wanting a 7.1 receiver).

Ok, since I'm spending your money buy the Klipsch. I think you'll be quite happy with them.

Anybody else wanna throw in their 2 cents?

I much prefer Klipsch over the Polk Monitor line. I don't like Polk until you get to the Rti series and above. I say go for the Klipsch. Also keep in mind Best Buy has the Klipsch speakers for half off sometime this week, I'm not sure if its the whole week or just black friday, and those are a step up with 8" woofers. That's definitely worth looking into.

I had looked at the Best Buy add, I think the 8 inch Klipsch are going to be a bit out of my price and the 6.5 inch ones are $5.00 more than what Newegg currently has. I have about $600 total to spend right now for both speakers and a receiver, I can maybe push it to $700 but I'd rather not if I can help it. I think that the extra $100 to get the 8 inch could set me back. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I hate going out on Black Friday and avoid it if I can, especially since I don't get up early to make sure what I want is still available.

Not sure if this matters much between the two, but I will be using them for movies mostly but also gaming and music (mostly harder stuff, Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, In This Moment etc.).

It's a guilty pleasure. My wife hates it. She's more in to Mumford and Sons.

The Polks are going to get you a little deeper in the bass. If you add a sub in the future it doesn't matter. Just a little tidbit.
The Klipsch will sound more lively.

I will definitely be planning to add a sub. In fact it will probably be the next piece I buy. I have always been a fan of Klipsch in the past and was super excited to see these on sale at a price I can afford, I just don't want brand loyalty to cause me to miss out on a good deal. I don't have any experience with Klipsch floor standing speakers so I can't even say that I know what they will sound like and these Polks seem to be pretty well respected and that is what is causing my hesitation on pulling the trigger on the Klipsch. I'm definitely the guy that agonizes over buying stuff. I normally will research the heck out of anything before buying it. I just haven't had the time with these. (I will mostly blame my 7 month old daughter for that one.)

Between these two I would pick the klipsch by a wide margin.
I just do not hear any definition or clarity out of the Polk and yet if you turn up the volume I think they sound harsh.
Hopefully you have had a chance to listen for yourself.

Regards,
Charlie

Well, I think I'm about convinced to get the Klipsch unless someone can convince me otherwise in the next few minutes. I do appreciate everyone's input, and it has been fun chatting with you XStanleyX. I will be back in the not so distant future when I have saved up enough to build up my system some more, probably around January or February.
