What do you guys recommend on a budget system with satellites/bookshelves? I was going to originally buy the polk monitor 40's but they are too big. The monitor 30's will just fit in the area so I am wondering what you guys recommend for about $300-400 for a full setup of speakers, center and sub. My problem is space so I will need something smaller than the monitor 40 bookshelves and a center that is smaller than the polk Polk Audio CS2 Series II Center Channel Speaker.

You're not going to get much if you want a sub and 5 speakers for $400.

You'd be better off with a 2.1. Like a pair of NHT SuperZero 2s (or similar) and a $200 Bic or Polk sub.

So get two pair of Monitor 30's and a CS1 center.

Monitor 30 $79/pr

CS1 center, $59

That's $220 for 5 speakers shipped. Then add a subwoofer for $180 or so and you're set!

Dayton 12" sub, $100

Bic V1220, $180

Bic F12, $200 (slightly over budget)

This is the main challenge for the OP - it is speaker placement. Not much area to
properly place the speakers. Also, will be a challange for rear ported speakers >
plus, larger type speakers.

I can't seem to find dimensions on the cs1. Is it smaller than the cs2? The cs2 was too big for the area.

Thanks for that. Yeah I am
Starting to wonder if I should mount the tv which will give me whatever height I need below it for fronts and a center. The cs1 may work I will re-measure.

Is this setup any good or is the monitor 30 with cs1 center better?

I would mount the TV over stuffing rear ported speakers, in a cubby hole.
Bigger speakers can give you bigger sound - you have a tough set-up.

If you can not raise the TV - then this Definitive package, can work for you.
And will be better than TV speakers.

Polk or not, is up to you.

The brand is not really that important to me. I have just heard great things about Polk. The room is only 12x12 so I assume I would get big sound from almost anything.

I would take the Monitor 30's and CS1 over either one of those satellite speaker packages.

should the sub be next/behind you or in front of you? if it needs to be in front the only way i can get everything to fit doing the CS1 sub and either monitor 30 or monitor 40's is to put 1 of the speakers behind the tv. otherwise I will need a smaller sub. The sub height or width can be as much as 17" but either height or width cannot exceed 11.5"

So in short I either need a speaker behind the tv and any sub listed above will work, OR a smaller sub.

The sub can be used as an end table if needed, you do not need a giant sub
for your listening area.

Again, I would not put speakers behind your TV - it hinders your sound. If you
are going to do that, then get some cheap Dayton speakers.

Pioneer for sure, if you set them up properly.
Polk is sub-standard for me, and I have owned both Polk and Pioneer speakers.

You can buy what you want - it is your call.

It is not all about price - that is close-out pricing on the Pioneer.

It is not all about pricing - it is about overall performace. Good
speaker reviews are easy to find for most products.

You may like Polk, they are not my preference.

Just about anything, will sound better than TV speakers.

Not for me, > The Outlaw M8, or this Acoustic Energy subwoofer, are just
about the only 8 inch subs - that I would seriously consider.

The Acoustic Energy Black Friday special, is $192.00
