The listening/viewing area is about 8x10, the whole room is around 12x20. There is no open space behind the seating area, all the extra open space is off to the right where mine and my wifes desks are, so we sit short way of the room rather than long. This room is a terrible layout for a media room. The best layout would be sitting long ways with the extra space possibly behind us but in terms of TV/Speaker layout, unfortunately the room/window layout makes it impossible to mount a TV/Speakers.
I am hardly an Audiophile, while I can tell a difference between my friends 600 dollar klipsh towers hooked up to a 400 dollar dennon reciever and these $12,000 B&W's hooked up to McINtosh equipment at my local Audio/Video store I just got to hear blasted the other night, with digital media the difference hardly makes me think WOW I HAVE TO HAVE THESE, now with something like records and lossless audio I will agree there is a substantial difference even to my untrained ears, but again it hardly makes me feel like I need the best speakers I can buy. If I was a big music listener I'd probably have a different tune.
I want speakers that are crisp and sound good at moderate levels. Something that is distinguishable, allows me to enjoy some music and really able to hear all the dialogue in a movie clearly and not get all muffled in loud action movies.
I'd like to keep my budget around $1000 (Thats for fronts/rears and Center), I could go higher if I waited a bit or pieced together something over time which even now I'm willing to do, but not being an audiophile, I feel given a lot of remarks I've heard on this forum, I can really find something that will do what I want for that price range, I'm just having a super hard time figuring out which brand to go with. Most of these speakers are not available locally for me to hear, and not all companies have a 30 day guarantee. Sound is personal preference and I know that, but if I can get a few people telling me something is good then well I'd be okay with that.
I'm also having trouble deciding between Floorstanding towers and bookshelves. I'd prefer Towers just for simplicity sake, I hear some say if you can bookshelves are better for whatever reason. I see something like HTD level 3's bookshelves being substantially cheaper than the floorstanding models and I would be willing to get those but then im wondering if they will be enough, and how much of a PITA it will be to mount them.
I'm a mess right now.. this stuff keeps my quite interested but it stresses me out not knowing what to do. If these were decesions about video related gear id be fine, I understand that quite a bit, but with audio I'm at a loss..
I seriously appreciate your help and responding to my thread
