Hello - I'm looking for LCR speakers on a budget of $700 to $900. My TV is 58in and is mounted above a fireplace, but the fireplace is on a wall that sticks out into the middle of a room, so I'm worried about speakers that are open in the back since the area behind the sheetrock is likely open. I don't have any HT at the moment, so anything will be an upgrade. I understand that enclosed speakers drive up the price. I'll use it mostly to watch TV and movies, and music every once in a while. I've had a hard time figuring out if speakers like this exist in the price range. If they do, any recommendations?

Triad in wall mini/4 satellite would works. It is the least expensive enclosed speaker I can think of. Another solution might be a speaker with a backbox but I would go with the Triad first.

Thank you both for the recommendations. I'm having a hard time finding pricing on both of these, but I found one reference to the triad 4 min being around $425/ea. I'm really wanting to stay close to $300/ea.

With the idea that something is better than nothing, I'm willing to consider open speakers with/without a back box. I was looking at the Def Tech ebay site and saw the DI 6.5 for $285/ea (refurbished). I were to go with an open speaker in the 300/ea price range, are there others I should consider? Do they make back boxes for DefTech, or are there generics out there? Sorry for all the newbie questions!

The inwall mini satellite/4 I show as being $300 each unless it went up and my price sheet is old.

So, I've realized I have studs closer than I originally thought (only 5.5 to 6 inches apart) on one side of my 60" tv, mounted above a fireplace. So, I'm now looking at ON-Wall LCR speakers in the same price range of 275-300 each. Any suggestions? Should I consider low profile/slim designs?

If you used the same speaker drivers and placed them in a big box and a small box, the big box would perform better. But things are never this easy and aesthetics often play a big factor. A TV mounted over a fireplace with a seated audience is typically best served by a tilt mount that angles the TV so the viewer has a good viewing angle to the TV. The same is true of speakers, if you can aim them at the listeners you will get better sound. You can certainly use a thin mount flat TV mount and get thin flat mounted s[peakers like the KEF T series. This will definitely look nice but will be a compromise for audio and video unless your audience is about the same height, like if they are standing. You have to decide which is more important. There are a great number of speakers that can be mounted that will work for your situation.
