I have a media room 20x13x10 and a big living room 25x25x22 (LxBxH). I need surround sound system for both. My budget is nearly $3000 for media room and $2000 for living room. Can anyone please suggest Surround Sound System for both ? Thanks.

First off, what other requirements or restrictions will there be for each room, concerning speaker types, and how many channels in each room. Are we talking all on-wall, or tower mains w/ center, surround on-wall. Or all stand mounted speakers.

I have 5.1 wiring in each room. I would prefer wall hanging in living room and floorstanding in media room. If wall hanging does not give good performance, i am open for floorstanding.

The Bose is the worst thing you can buy; half snake oil and half garbage. In-wall or "wall-hanging" speakers have serious performance limitations that should be avoided if floorstanding speakers can be used.

For system that will blow it away and give you some excellent sound, go to KEF Direct and get a pair of the iQ90 speakers, a pair of the iQ10 speakers, and the C6LCR center speaker. This will run about $1400 total. These are excellent speakers that are currently heavily discounted because they are "last-year's" model, but they are still excellent speakers.

Then get an NHT B12D subwoofer for $700, and you will have a system that will be around 600% better-sounding than that Bose crap.

For your sake, I hope you can return that Bose setup.

Every reply you get, will be for their own favorite speaker system, myself included.
First, not all on-walls are created equal, you know what blose are like.
For big wall mount speakers with a lot of ass behind them, to say nothing of sounding great. JBL Studio L series.
4 L820s, LC2, and any sub you want to add. In fact you could even go with the LC2 for all channels
For floor standing speakers the same series has the L880, L890. So you end up with perfectly matched systems how ever you go.
If you want to stretch your budget in one room, cos you saved in the other, then the JBL PT800, PC600. I have these speakers. The PT800 can be wall mounted, stand mounted or mounted to their matched subs, the PS1400. The statement above about the LC2, can also be used for the PC600, used for all channels, as can the PT800.

And right now both Harman Audio and Amazon have great deals on all those models.

First Kef speakers are not the be all to end all despite what "some" posters say. There are many, many options to choose from.

There are also quite a few wall mount options that would sound good as well. It seems you want something good in the LR and something as good as possible in the media room?

Def Tech has their Mythos line of on wall speakers for starters.

As for the media room I'll let others make some suggestions. Does your budget need to include amplification too?

Klipsch RF-62II, RC-500, RS-400, SVS PC12+,
Def Tech SC8000
Harman Kardon AVR 1600
PS3, Apple TV, Sharp 70" Qattron

Sorry - being new I don't know what means by "amplification", if it means sub-woofer or receiver - then yes I need a complete set. One of the best for Media room (upto $5000) and for LR - $2000- $3000.

So now the media room is $5K? An increase of $2k from your first post.
Or is that a mis-print and its $5k total for both rooms?

In any case, at full retail prices, the speakers should be at least 1/2 ~ 2/3 the total of the entire system.
Now if you buy speakers at a huge discount, then it would be less than 1/2, and reduce the entire cost.

Lets say you only spend $2k in the LR, do you then want to put that other $1k into the media room? giving you more to work with.

So you need 5 speakers, 1 sub, 2 is better, an AVR or a pre/pro & MC amp.
All AVRs are not created equal, a few have pre-outs (allowing you to add a power amp later) most do not. And its the higher priced ones that do have pre-outs.Some have full 5.1 pre-outs, some only for the main L/R speakers.
But they are still cheaper than most pre/pros.
