We just built out our Home Theater and I'm totally lost when it comes to speakers. I'm hopeful that someone can reccomend a nice sounding setup for a 5.1 theater for right around $1,000. I already have a receiver (Yamaha RX-V671 7.1-Channel Network AV Receiver), so I just need advice on speakers.

We are pre-wired for all 6 speakers, but don't have to go in wall, although that is my preference.

When on sale, you can get a very nice system from EMPtek, the Impression series, for around 1,000 dollars!
Infinity primus p363 towers, often sold for 100/speaker, with matching center (around 200) and a pair of p163 for 100. Leaves about 500 for a svs, hsu, klipsch or emp sub.
At times you can get the Polk m series 5 speakers for close to 500 dollars.
Last, and I am not a huge fan but many are, the pioneer Andrew jones speaker gives you a lot of driver for the money and sales right now make it hard to beat.

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

Elihawk, thanks for the response, I will check out each speaker. What are your thoughts in ceiling speakers for the rears? I don't have a great place to put freestanding speakers in the back. Are there any reasonably priced in wall speakers for the fronts that will compete w/ towers? I'm a noob, as you can already likely tell. Just trying to get a rich, crisp, powerful sound.

mtbdudex, too funny! That's the cover art for Ween Chocolate & Cheese, one of my all time favorite albums.

So here is what I am thinking for my setup:

Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II for my fronts ($149/each Newegg) -- $300
Polk Audio CS2 Series II Center Channel Speaker -- $149
Polk Audio RC65i White 6.5" High Performance In-Wall Speaker Pair (Rears) -- $140/pair
Subwoofer, what would be best sub $350?

I got the new Vizio 70" LED & Yamaha RX-V671 7.1.

Thoughts? What speakers would you swap out? Any incredible deals right now?

Thanks!

One other note, I can still return the Yamaha RX-V671 7.1, it was a BF deal for $350 through Amazon (normally $500). There are probably much better sub $350 receivers, open to your suggestions on any of this really.

I don't know if there are much better receivers than your 671 for $350. There are some that add Airplay or different type of room correction but the 671 has a nice feature set.

For $350, take a look the Klipsch RW-12D, BIC PL-200, and offerings from HSU.

Denon AVR-1713 | EMP E55Ti | EMP E56Ci | EMP E5Bi | BIC F-12

Thanks afrogt, that's what I thought, but nice to hear someone else say it!

Here is a suggestion I gave for a $1k system, I do think it would be better than the Polk towers you are considering. You won't need the tower speakers if you have a decent subwoofer, the only advantage towers have over bookshelf speakers is the ability to play deeper, but that ability is negated since the sub would be handling that range of frequencies anyway.

I just did my Home theatre for around 1K (Speakers only)

I used 3 Kef IQ90's for the front. They are being sold at 399$ right now, i snagged them for 329$ during the thanksgiving sale.

Vanns sells open boxes between 325 and 342 each.

I did get a Klipsch 12D subwoofer, but rarely use it

Do you want to have tower as front speakers? If you do not, I would recommend the following:

Front: HTD Level 2 bookshelf $199.00 pair
Center: HTD Level 2 $129.00
Surround: HTD Level 2 surround speaker $129.00 x 2 = $258
Sub: HTD Level 2 10" sub $349.00

For a total of $935.00 without including shipping.

Furthermore, HTD will give you 30 day trial. If you do not like their speakers, they will pay for return shipping.

Note: You can replace the sub for may be BIC F12 for $200.00 or the Klipsch RW-12D when is on sale for $299.99.
