I have an HK 3490 I'm not using and I'd like to upgrade the M-Audio AV40s I'm using as they dont due low frequency very well(fall off at 80Hz). I'd rather not use a subwoofer due to space and they would also be for near feild use. Most used for gaming and Netflix streaming.

I have a Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium sound card so i can Toslink or RCA to the receiver Since its for stereo use I dont think it would matter much.

I was looking at Definitive TEchnologies ProMonitor 1000 to the Bowers and Wilkins 685Bs. I'm looking for something that sounds flat and can pick up somewhere around the 60 Hz range. I really only have Best Buy around me to demo stuff which is a problem.

$700 would be my absolute max.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You might not even need to spend that much for bookshelf speakers.

These Def Tech SM450's may do the trick.

Those SM450 monitors would be great, I would also recommend the Behringer 2031P, they are very good near field monitors.

I use Hsu HB-1 bookshelves as my desk speakers and have been really impressed with them. They are listed at 60Hz +/- 2dB but, they have good bass well below that. As a comparison, I also have some Focal Chorus 706V bookshelves that are 55Hz +/- 3dB and the Hsu speakers have much, much strong bass.
