I've heard the Kef R900's which so far is my favorite because of how effortless and natural it sounded but lacked in making me get in the groove of the music and kind of cost to much.Maybe a LITTLE darker or smoother.
Next up was the cm9's by B&W. REALLY musical flow to them because of how smooth and "lush" (don't know if that' the word for it. maybe dark) they were but i felt that some instruments shouldn't be that smooth. That made me feel like there was an artificial sound with some instruments. Also the midbass felt like it had this velvety veil over the woofers that made the midbass match the mids but they didn't hit hard enough. Another thing i liked about them was for being as smooth as they were, they were pretty detailed in the highs and even minute details where thrown in the air around your face. The image i got from the cm9's was stairing at the sky when it's dark out but still velvety blue (mids)with sparkly stars (highs) and black clouds just chillin lol(bass)
Definitive's just didn't do it for me at all or the martin logan motion series. I did however hear the Martin Logan Theos and thought that they were really accurate and detailed. The imaging on them was pretty awesome but i felt that they did not project out enough to get me into the music unless it was something like a band or classical music. In that sense, they were superb how they image like an actual band or artist is there giving you a live performance but they don't offer what i need for most of my music. The woofer was able to pressurize the room pretty darn good though and it was a LARGE room.
Energy's largest floorstander in the RC line gave me a wow for being on sale at bestbuy for $274 a piece. Unfortunately there was no way they were for me. First off was that metal tweeter. OMG was it abrasive sounding and the mids were just BLAND! Maybe a tube amp could bring the mids to life but nothing could fix that tweeter for me. The mids in general were really in your face forward but i think that might be because of the way they were uber toed in. This forwardness allowed me to hear ALOT of detail in the mids that i really haven't heard in most any other speaker except the Kef R series. Not sure if it was the amount of detail but something gave me the feeling of more texture and ability to "see" the instruments instead of a flat wall of muisic. That was the major wow for me. The forwardness of the mids was neat but super harsh and bland though. There wasn't a lot of detail for the bass either but i was listening to a denon cd player and music that was not mine. They had A LOT of punch and i believe this was so they would reach out as far as the mids did.
So there it is.
If someone can help me out then that would be great.
Btw price is up to $3,500 a pair but maybe Maybe $4000

If you have the chance , you might want to give a shot to Monitor Audio RX series or paradigm studio series to complete the comparison

I actually forgot that i have heard them A LITTLe. Both the large floor standing speakers. I did think the Monitors had potential but didn't get to hear them with ANY good equipment at all and they were super confined. Not a fair comparison at all. I did notice they had good punch to them though. The paradigms also, not a good source and confined to a little corner. What i did hear from them was an immediate no,no on the mids. Don't know what it was but almost threw up. It was a long time ago lol and like i said, not a fair trial. I will problably never get to audition them again though because they were at a speaker shop that i will not go to anymore. In the event i did go back, i would not be able to ask them to set them up differently because they don't like people that ask for something without giving first. I personally think it's because the speakers they had in horrible set-ups would probably hold their own against some of the higher end models they would rather sell and make more money off of.

Most possibly the placements. I heard MAs, paradigms & B&W & KEFs ( not the R series). All of them have their own sound signatures, but none of them was significantly better than the others.
