"This is where you can expand on your "if I knew then what I know now" spiel in an attempt to help people save time and money by not making the same mistakes that you had to go through to reach your satisfaction level."
biggest lesson is that frequency response without an spl chart is pretty much useless, as big sound is more about big spl than low extension.
second biggest lesson is that music bass is not as low in frequency as i thought. much better to get 60-200hz super loud, then to worry about 20hz extension, again, for most music.
third biggest lesson is that there is a pro-audio world that has real equipment for making big sound. most home equipment is completely inadequate for recreating a live performance at live levels.
fourth biggest lesson is that most, but not quite all, of the difference in sound from one system to another can be measured, so most subjective analysis is worthless.
fifth biggest lesson is the relationship between companies that make audio products, companies that review audio products, and advertising dollars. 'nuff said.
great thread. too bad more people don't start with reading something like this before asking about if crappy speaker "a" is better than crappy speaker "b".
