Ok Hi everyone, instead of making a million posts I have narrowed it down and ask your help.

right now my main issue is my reciever not being powerful enough (75w/c)to drive most bookshelf to near reference levels...so maybe that will be the next upgrade after going to bookshelfs. I currently have Klipsch reference all around but am looking ot get away from the bright horns here is my short list for a 90/10 Movies/music,

B&W 685 88db sens. 650.00
Axiom M3V3 95db sens 378.00
Aperion Grand 87db Sens 598.00
PSB B6 90 db sens. can be had with matching center channel for 650.00 new
Def Tech 55 90 db sens 600.00

I have heard the B7W and Def tech....loooved the sound of the B&W but not sure my reciever can handle them

I listen at minimum of -10db's for movies and my room is 13x17x8 with listening position about 9 ft from the speakers...these will be wall mounted and angled to be direct to the MLP.

please help me decide...best sound for the buck. this is worse than decding on subs haha

also they will be paired with a svs pb12

The best bookshelf I have heard, that didn't require a federal grant to purchase. is the Ascend Acvoust CMT340. Very nive speaker, hits low, is smooth and crisp at the highs and good midbass! Reasonably sensitive (90 db)...about 600/0r and another 300 for the matching center channel (if you were thinking 5.1 some day)

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

Once you have a short list - it is up to your ears, and your ears alone to make the final decision.

All the speakers on it are good, and would each make some people happy. You are at the personal preference stage of the decision.

My personal preference should be irrelevant, anybody else's personal preference should be irrelevant - yours is the only one that counts.

The best kind of advice is what elihawk gave, maybe add another to your list - but then the decision needs to be based on your ears, no one else's.

btw. You may not get as many answers here as you'd like. This is the third thread you've started, all on the same topic. People generally prefer to keep a single conversation, on a single topic, for a single person...in a single thread. Any particular reason you didn't just want to add your list to the existing "bookshelf help" thread?

actually all 3 threads were different. one was what is the difference between bookshelfs and floorstanders...the next was opinions...this one agreed could have been in the second thread. sorry for that, I guess i am just used to the lightning fast responses in the subwoofer forum. I need to make this decision very quickly. sorry to clutter frown.gif

my issue with not knowing what most sound like. I was hoping some people here would know how they compare. I guess ioll just have to home audition a bunch

HTD Level Two or Level Three's, depending on what style of speaker you want. One is silk dome, the other is a ribbon-style. Don't let the price fool you on these.
www.htd.com

I'd also take a look at Paradigm if you have a dealer in your area. You can't get them on the internet, but they are a fine quality speaker.
The Studio lines are nice, but a little pricier. The Monitor and SE series are a little less expensive, and I have demoed them recently. Great overall bookshelves.

I will not buy this record, it is scratched.

^ This.

As for a recommendation: SoundField Audio Monitor 1

I'd really consider buying a new receiver too, or maybe an outboard amp if your current unit has pre-outs.

Since you are wall mounting, I guess you should look for front ported/sealed ones

what if I traded my denon with my inlaws for a 1712 which has 90watts per channel? would that be a significant increase?

if it makes a difference I will be putting them on brackets so they will be not flush against the wall

Whoops - missed the wall mounting comment. If they won't be flush on the wall the SFA Monitor 1's would still work, otherwise something else would be better, such as the Ascend Sierra-1 or Salk SongSurround 1.

is that a decent deal? I am blind buying them from all the reviews. and figure if I dont like them I can flip them

Nope, insignificant difference to 75wpc.

good deal and good speakers...

...I'm guessing that you are likely to be happy with most speakers (just like me, makes it easier to risk buying unheard).

Thank you. Yes I am excited. I like very refined highs but not overly bright. And lastly the klipsch have been bugging me in that regard after having them for 15 years lol

Just sold the front 3 rf-3 and RC-3 for 700. So it will be a wash. smile.gif

Not to throw a wet blanket on here, but what makes you think any of these speakers will play well at reference levels? Or even reach reference levels? I don't know the speakers involved particularly, but reference level achievement is not usually a stat thrown out by all the manufacturers...

Personally then I'd vote for the Ascend 340's (the only bookshelf they make I don't have). Don't know the other two but just based on what I've read I'd lean to the PSB.

PSB is nice - however, the Definitive SM55 is a real nice one.

Keep asking and you'll keep getting more opinions...

...you will never get consensus.

You will get congratulated when you make a choice, whatever it is.

The Axiom M3s are nice; their centre speakers tend to get panned here at AVS though (moreso the vp100 than the 150)

Yup as ultimately you need to just try something in your room....it's very subjective.

i REALLY appreciate the responses guys! I love AVS and would be "stuck" in klipsch mode without you all. so thank you!

I purchased the psb image b6 with matching c5 center for 650.00 shipped. I think its the best value, and I am sure I will love them.

haven't read a negative thing about them yet. I ordered the brackets from pinpoint, so My xmas break week I will be doing the in-wall wire fishing that week (fun fun)
I will report back on my thoughts smile.gif. I am VERY confident I will like them because since yesterday afternoon i have been without my RF-3 towers and RC-3 center (sold on craigslist buyer came and picked them up...13 years old got 675.00 for the set) and hooked up quintets to hold me over (4.1 setup) , set my sub XO at 150 and got to be honest...not terrible sounding haha..so if those are ok...then PSB should knock my socks off biggrin.gif

thanks again...I will report back soon
