I am a soon to be happy owner of a new Denon AVR-1712. I was fortunate and found the last one remaining in my area, possibly the state and beyond. It's being shipped from a warehouse for pickup on Dec 19. Got it for a song, $149.99 plus sales tax. Thanks slickdeals.
As you may be able to tell I'm amped, pun intended.
Now I am looking for some speakers to pair with the 1712. I just purchased a 55ST50 and the internal speakers just don't cut it. I'm not looking for a 5.1/7.1 system. I would rather have a better two speaker system than a super budget 5.1. I would like to at some point upgrade to 2.1, maybe 3.1.
Budget: $300 for two front bookshelf speakers
Uses: HD movies & programming, Xbox 360 (games), PS3 (games and blu-ray movies), music
Room dimensions: 11x11x8 (I know, I know, worst shape for accoustics)
Room specifics: Carpeted floors, wallpapered walls, one window with vertical blinds
Distance between speakers: 4 1/2-5 ft
Speaker distance from back wall: 2-3 ft
Speaker distance from side wall @3 ft
Seating position: 7-8 ft from front of TV screen, which is 16-17" from wall
Considering the 2-3' distance from the back of the speakers to the wall, would rear ported bookshelf speakers be problematic? I read about placing foam plugs in the ports.
Considering the small size of my room should I exclude floor standing speakers altogether?
If there's any other information I could provide that would help please feel free to ask.
