Hi i know this has been discussed before, because i just read a number of threads with similar topics but i am just stuck on what i should buy for a new ht system.

Firstly, i just bought an lg lm9600 55" led tv, so i want to be using the speakers for that. im going to use it primarily for watching movies, To this point in life i only really used cheap old surround system that i bought for like 300 dollars but i want to have a really good system this time. My budget is 2000 now.

I initially wanted to get the kef t305 speakers just because they would mount beautifully next to my tv and i had read some great reviews on them. Reading these forums however, i guess people feel it lacks mid and low range. I know i can get some great systems with floorstanding speakers that would be much better for the price, but i dont want bulky cabinets. Im limited on space.

what can you guys recommend, that would give great sound but not take too much space. I would prefer floorstanding speakers if they are on the slim side, or even if it could be discretely wall mounted.

You didn't mention how much space you have for those 'slim' towers. Some tower speakers are 15" or more wide - some are only 5-6" wide. Define 'slim'.

With a $2k budget I'd allocate at least $500 for a sub and look for some good bookshelf speakers. NHT Classic two's or three's - DefTec would be on my short list. Paradigm Cinema would be another. Room size and how loud you listen to movies and music will factor into these choices.

When all else fails - RTFM!

Wow, that is a tough space. How do you even plan to mount a wall speaker on the left side of the TV where there is no wall?

I think you can get slim tower speakers to put under the TV. Deftech Mythos, Paradigm Millenia 200 are possibilities.

Since your space is so constrained, it may not be worth it to get a center channel speaker. Just use left and right speakers and your receiver will create a phantom center image.

Also, try to contact Leon speakers. They make custom sized speakers that mount to your TV. I have never heard them, but they are pretty well regarded. Some of their models mount under the TV like a sound bar, but others mount to the left and right sides of the TV.

Oh, the Kef T305 are supposedly pretty good sounding for super slim speakers. Just make sure you get a sub that can crossover pretty high, like 120 Hz, to compensate for the lack of bass in the Kef speakers. The SVS SB12 would work great. SVS also just came out with a cheaper model, the SB1000, but I have not seen measurements on it yet. The Kef sub that comes with the T series package is way overpriced. Definitely avoid that. It would be better to pair the speakers with a different sub, IMO.

thanks for your advice. Ya on the left side i was going to create a long mount that will attach to the wall and hover the speaker alongside the tv. the mythos speakers are little over my budget, and by the specs the millenia 200 looks like the lower range is still an issue.

If i buy the complete t305 system with the sub, and add a second sub, do you think this would be a good option?

I would just avoid that sub.

HT measured it here

http://www.hometheater.com/content/kef-t305-speaker-system-ht-labs-measures

The -3 dB was at 38 Hz. Pretty weak.

Audioholics measured the SB12 here

http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/subwoofers/sb12-nsd-subwoofer/sb12-nsd-measurements

The -3 dB level was 21 Hz. Way better.

It seems like you do get a price break by buying the whole T305 package vs, the individual speakers. But, if I were you, I would get the T301s for L and R, the 301c for the center, two T101s for surround duty, and a good sub like the SVS. Even the cheaper SB1000 will play much lower, with SVS claiming a -3 dB of 24 Hz. They usually do not exaggerate their measurement.

ya if i just but the t205 it comes with 3xt301 2xt101 and the sub. its cheaper than buying separately. so at this point wouldn't it make sense to use 2 subs? or will it make it sound worse? im just trying to get a good scope of things.

Depends on the size of the room, and how much bass you really want.

Also look at Focal Sib XL

ok guys so after some more thought and research. Ive narrowed it down to the Mythos XTR-60's and Devine Audio Shadow 60's for my LCR's. For now ill invest the money on those and do the sub and surround later. I was also considering the Mythos Nine or Ten's, but the thikness is almost double of the XTR's

By the specs both these models are very similar by being the same size and same range from 70hz-30khz. Has anyone used either? I have no idea which make has a better reputation or which will sound the best. There are almost no reviews or comparisons anywhere.

I have also decided on buying the Pioneer vsx-1122. Is this sufficient?

I would be cautous with the Definitve low range quoted spec -
They do not give a -3 or -6 db point.

the nice thing about socal is that you dont have to look to hard to find a dealer to audition almost anything you want to hear, being in LA theres plenty of option all over. Im in riverside. most speaker mfgs websites will tell you what dealer they have in your area within a 50 radius so you can look them up and locate a dealer.
