I have a home theater that was wired with SOLID 12 awg wire for 5.1. The wires just come out of holes behind permanent speaker locations, but I want to be able to put my fronts and center away when not in use. So, I'd like to terminate these wires at a wallplate that will accept banana plugs. So, I need to figure out which plug is best to use with solid wire. Any ideas?

Once I upgrade my bookshelfs with towers, then the towers will stay put, but until then, I'm not leaving my bookshelfs tetering on stands for every day living with two small kids in the house.

Thanks for the help.

Wall plates are available with one or more pairs of banana jacks.

They should be gold-plated jacks to eliminate corrosion and you should solder the in-wall wire to them.

The best banana plugs are made by Pomona Electronics. Many are very cheap and lose spring tension in time.

Monoprice 3324 wall plate.

Use Speakons, not bananas.

So the binding post type of plug that has the horizontal hole that you slide the wire throught then clamp the top down is what I need, and those work well with SOLID wire, but I should solder that connection? Or, am I not following about the inwall wire hookup?
