Hey guys!

I am new to the speaker scene, and am building my first home theater setup.

I have a bedroom that is about 12x16 in terms of dimensions (even though I only use the front half, as my bed takes up the rest)

I sit about 8-9 feet from my television.

I picked up a Denon AVR-1913 receiver and a set of Energy Take Classic Speakers, and for the most part they sound great. One thing I noticed is that everything sounds crisp and clear, when listening to music, I do feel like my ears are getting tired/fatigued after a little while.

I got these speakers for about $500 and right now they have the energy RC-70 for $1000 for a pair.

They didn't have any setup so I couldn't listen to them but have been hearing they are good, so i wanted to see what you guys thought about both of them and if I should return the Energy Take Classics and get the RC-70 towers alone for the time being, since I wouldn't have the budget to get a center channel and surround speakers right away.

I guess the other option is to keep the Energy Take Classics and add some floorstanding towers to them down the line. If so, which ones should I go with?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, in a heartbeat! The RC-70's are world's better than the Take Clasics. Get the RC-70's now while you still can.

Even with only two speakers I'd prefer them over 5.1 take classic setup.

Shoot, I have a pair of RC-10s and would keep them over Take Classics. Actually I already did that. Sold my Takes and picked up a s10.3 subwoofer for $175 at the time.

Thanks for the quick reply!

How do you think they compare to the RF-82 and RF800B (I guess the second one is only sold in Canada)?

I figure if I am going to buy something for $1000 might as well see how similar priced speakers are smile.gif

I don't like Klipsch speakers and horn tweeters so I'm quite biased but people that like Klipsch speakers love these.

So I'd take the RC-70's without hesitation.

RC-70's are light years ahead of Takes. I have both, with the small ones in the bedroom. LCR's and 10's are hard to find, but they do show up in eBay from time to time. I think there's a guy selling his RC setup in the classified section here. See if he has any of them left.

If anyone tells you to use the Takes, they are yankin yer chain biggrin.gif

What do you guys think about the Jamo S606 5.0 set?

Would it be better to pick up that over the RC-70 (just the front, so only 2 channel)?

I had the s426 before and the center channel seemed really weak.

The S606 is a significant step up from the S426 - particularly the center and surrounds. The S606 mains however are probably not in the same league as the RC-70's. I had the Jamo S606 set for a while as a fall-back system while I auditioned other speakers (it's a very solid HT system for the price - certainly better than any of the satellite systems in the same price range). I also had a pair of Energy RC10 bookshelves at the same time, and while they obviously didn't go as low as the Jamo S606 main towers, the overall sq of the RC10's was significantly better.

It might really be the common question of starting with a full 5.1 system or starting with a (higher quality for the same money) 2.1 system that you can expand later.

Thanks for the feedback guys! The rc-70 dropped down to $800 for a pair so I went and ordered them :-)

If I can't get a hold of the rc-lcr for the center channel, are there any other center channels that you guys recommend that will still work well with these?

Picked these up as well on boxing day and got the price match for the reduction. I am also wondering if there is a center channel that matches well with them. In the meantime I will keep my eyes open for a RC-LCR. Any opinions on the RC-R surrounds?

RC-R surrounds are great. There is high demand for them.

RC LCR's are scarce, you'll be lucky to find one at a low price.

You can still get RC-R's and LCR's, but won't be at the price Vann's was offering. They can still be had for less than their original price however. We've been spoiled. Remember the original MSRP for those 70's. If an LCR was $250 from Vann's, but goes for $400 now, given that the 70's are still cheap compared to their original price, the total cost still isn't too bad IMO.

Kind of like the speaker/electronic ratio is. Take into account the original price of the speakers when getting electronics, not what you paid for them.

Thanks!! Any suggestions on where to find the RC-LCR's or the RC-R's? The deal on the 70's is incredible. They are an amazing speaker! Looking to pair these with an SVS as well. I'm thinking the PB12-NSD will pair well.
