This is my first surround sound I have built. Previously I have just had a HTIB unit. I have been hooked up for about a week and I am disappointed in my current setup. I feel like I expected more and want to get more out of my speakers.

2 Polk Audio RTI 12s
Polk Audio CSI A6 center
Polk audio 2 FXI A6 rear surrounds
Pioneer sc-1222k receiver
Polk audio psw505 subwooofer

What do you recommend for getting the most out of this setup? I was looking to try out the emotiva xpa2 or xpa5 amplifier? or should I sell my subwoofer and go with a bigger one? Should I add a second subwoofer? or should I make it a 7.1 setup with two more surrounds?

The sub is definitely the weak link in your setup. Your receiver should be more then capable of powering those speakers, as it is 4 ohm certified. Another question would be how do you have everything arranged? A pic of your setup would be easiest.

Thank you for your advice. The room is 18' by 14' . I have the 2 RTI12s in the front corners of the room, the center in the center front of the room. The FXI A6s are wall mounted in the rear of the room. The subwoofer is unfortunately in the rear right of the room(girlfriend does not like it in the front of room frown.gif.

What subwoofer would you recommend?

Those speakers shouldnt be stuffed in corners, they need room to breath, try pulling them in at least 1-2' from the corners. If you get a pair of subs, those would be perfect for the front corners, with the speakers just to the inside of each sub. What's your budget for subs?

At the minimum I would get a pair of these

If you can spend more, you of course can get better results.

As was stated, move the speakers away from the corners - if you want
to get hit hard on a budget - the Cadence sub woud be a nice one

Also, redo your MCACC setup after moving the speakers out of the corner.

Thanks again for the advice. I will try moving them out of the corners to see the difference that makes. My budget currently is $1,000, but over the next few months I could increase it. My plan is to just buy a few things here and there. I just purchased my psw505 like a month ago so it kills me its not good enough after reading everyone's reviews, but I guess you live and you learn. If they cant be in the corners, can they at least be against the back wall 1-2' from corners?

You'll have to experiment and see what gets you satisfying results. A pair of PB1000's would be a good bet for $1k

This is primary used as a home theater system. 75/25 with the remaining 25 being music. So you guys think I would be better off going for the upgraded subwoofers as opposed to a 2 channel amplifier for the fronts?

How is your room setup, is it an open room, bare walls, furniture, carpet or hardwood floors? The room itself could be a main factor and instead of new speakers, some acoustic panels may just do the trick if your room needs. Again, perhaps some pics of the place may give everyone an idea of what to recommend
